New Year's Update
Added 2017-01-02 21:30:58 +0000 UTC So the new year has come and gone and so I think it's time to do a little house cleaning and make some plans for the future. I'm really not one for resolutions because they're too easily broken but I am going to try and make some now that can be summed up as this:
I'm gonna try and be less of a flake.
This means, primarily, that I'm going to try and deliver on projects and stuff promised in greater frequency.
I'm going to make a concentrated effort to finish (or at least make a lot more progress) on some of the projects on my plate. Failing that, I'm going to be more communicative and incremental in my progress and progress updates. I've been hoarding some things in order to make them more perfect or complete and that just leads to dead periods and a lot of disappointed and angry people, so that's got to change.
With regards to streams, I have a computer that's getting kind of long in the tooth and so when I stream there tends to be a lot of lag and various other issues. that kind of make streaming a hassle and a little unpleasant. I was saving up for a new computer for a while, but fixing my piece of shit car has put enough of a dent in those funds that it's time to bite the bullet and soldier through the hassle. Especially since I do kind of feel guilty about not doing them as much as I should. So I'm going to make an effort to stream and do request streams with more regularity.
With regards to other pledge and tier rewards. While a couple of them can't be delivered on just yet, some can, and I'm going to make fulfilling them a priority. For example it has been brought to my attention that the Big New Year calendar was promised to be for fourteen months rather than twelve, so I owe you guys two pictures for that. I've got a few ideas so I may extend that to an extra four to make up for the wait. For the high pledge tiers, you were promised exclusive content, and while it's not ready quite yet, s soon as it is, you'll see a message from me from where to get it. I likewise have a couple ideas of what to deliver there, so please look forward to it.
I sincerely appreciate the support you guys are giving me and I'm going to make more of an effort not to abuse that trust and support.
On that note however, onto the second order of business:
At some point this month I'll be switching my patreon page to Charge Upfront . There are a few reasons for this change, and the big ones are:
This doesn't (as per my understanding of the system ) change anything for current pledges, only new ones, and only for the first time they pledges (or, I think, re-pledge).
I asked you guys for feedback on this last month and waited and while response wasn't particularly huge, I did see that, pretty much unanimously, the verdict was that it wasn't going to affect most people in any meaningful way and that patrons were okay with it. And I figure that if there are those of you out there serious objections, you had a month and change to raise them, but didn't.
It's very clear that some guys (who are admittedly likely a vocal minority) are just gonna yell at me for selling out and running a paywall regardless. Even though stuff leaks out like crazy if you put even the slightest amount of effort into knowing where to look, and even though I post a lot of it myself publicly as part of a regular buffer every month (because even waiting is too hard and unjust apparently?), and even though I've never really put a lot of effort in stopping it the aforementioned leaks, I still get to go and see people complain about how I've somehow "abandoned the community to hide behind a paywall", because I guess if any money ever changes hands ever that's some kind of unforgivable taboo. So hey, I figure if I'm gonna get the grief for that I might as well actually put some effort into deserving it, even if its just this a half assed effort.
But ultimately the biggest reason of all is also the likely the most petty reason of all: I get a handful of guys unpledging and repledging multiple times a month (one particularly dedicated guy does it like 5+ times a week) and having those notifications from those same guys pop up in my inbox every day is damn annoying. I actually kind of hope it's the work of bots because nobody can be so dumb as to think I wouldn't notice a pattern after the first month or two. Either way, this was proposed as a way to curtail that.
If you have a problem with that, then sorry. I do actually feel a little bad, its come to this, mostly because I wasn't very popular in high school and so now years after the fact I have a pathological need to be well liked. But...them's the breaks, and like I said in point three, you're still gonna get stuff, if you just be patient and or a little savvy.
So, with that out of the way, let's all go forward into 2017 with more round things.
