Assumeably they died and went to hell, though they don't remember who they were before dying, or why they were in hell. I assume you're talking about our main character as 'that demon" and they're just a mix of hippo and allosaurus as a design, but they're the result of escaping hell via giant ground demon . Basically we don't know because the character doesn't.
