Rogue One: An Andor Story Watch A Long

Hey Peaches! We're watch Rogue One for the first time.........since finishing Andor S2. Granted neither of us has seen this in a long time. But the real question is, how does this movie hit different after watching the best Star Wars show ever made?

The first watch reactions are so fun, and y’all seem to enjoy them that it’s wildly worth it

All of my popcorn napkins were spent by that point, so when the reality hit me as well, I was reduced to jacket sleeve. 🤣

Loved this movie from the start, and love it just as much now. The Andor stuff helped fill out some of his motivation here and there, but since I connected with the entire cast from the jump, I can’t honestly say Andor made it better. Rogue One has always been a banger in my opinion.

When I saw this in theaters, it didn’t hit me until Baze died, that no one was going to make it off the planet. Then, when Vader lit his lightsaber, I was literally on the edge of my seat. This movie definitely clips better than before watching Andor, 💯

Re: the Krennic/Vader scene…it could’ve been an email, but I thought it took on new meaning after the show. It’s effectively the exact same power dynamic that played out when Krennic confronted Dedra in that holding cell. Everyone in the Empire thinks they’re the smart one, they’re the one that deserves to ascend. In reality, that goes all the way to the top — even Vader thinks he can overtake the Emperor. This scene doesn’t work nearly as well without Andor, for sure, but having that context of Krennic wielding this exact same influence and power over Dedra as Vader wields over him here is strong, from a narrative angle.

To the point of cartoons not transitioning well to film, I thought Bobs Burgers actually did a decent job. Just felt like a long episode, in a good way.

I second the request for a rewatch of at least A New Hope. I know you guys have seen it plenty, but I want to see your reactions to it with both Andor and Rogue One fresh in mind. I know I'm going to rewatch it. It will really feel like the ultimate finale to this story (episodes V and VI not withstanding).

She did say the line "rebellions are built on hope" in the theatrical release. the line from the trailer that was cut was "this is a rebellion, isn't it? I rebel."

Now we need an episode IV reaction.

Truly, now that I’ve watched the movie for the first time (after watching Andor), I can comfortably say that Andor is more of a hero to me than Luke. I know Luke has a place in everyone’s heart for being the main character of the OT, and an important force-user and Jedi in the story of Star Wars, but he couldn’t have done anything without Andor jumping on board with the resistance. Andor is truly one of the best shows I’ve seen in my life. I’ve been watching Andor season one and two along with the two of you, my first reactions of every episode alongside you. And I can say with confidence that it’s been an even better experience because of it. Also, I do hope that, one day, they may do a recut version of this movie, with some extra scenes with the Andor cast spliced in and the character designs from certain characters redone (Mostly Saw without his mask) to make it an even more seamless experience.
