Wicked Watch A Long

Hey Peaches! You asked for. Jay has watched it before, but Adam has no idea about anything. How many times will Jay cry? And how will Adam find his way into the story? Prepare yourselves, this is a reaction FOR. THE. AGES!

Also, Jay, I’m sorry - but you can’t cut I’m Not That Girl. That’s a very female thing, I think. So perhaps there’s a perspective thing involved?

Watching this again - you should definitely do some musical watch alongs with those that are on screen with their Broadway casts. Especially those you would be surprised at actually good. SpongeBob the musical. Shrek the musical. Titanic the musical. And of course the Hamilton one. And these are filmed ON STAGE. So it will be interesting. Come on, Adam - take it for the team! (Also, I bet you’ll like both Shrek and SpongeBob.)

End of The Wizard and I Jay: Sing it girl. Yes ma'am Adam: Tell me the lore of that desert.

Jay I think you and I have the exact same opinions on all of this. The songs and moments that could be cut. Not being a huge fan of Act 2 and all that. It’s good to be seen

Joined Patreon for this and it was so worth it! As for the dancing scene, her choreography is supposed to be awkward because she's never been to a dance. That makes it more obvious that Glinda is learning her moves and makes it more clear when the rest of the crowd adopts it after Ginda embraces it - proving that popularity can normalize something weird, or as we see, her green skin. That said in the Broadway show the audience laughs at her along with the other students so it doesn't have the same emotional impact as the movie. So I agree it feels awkward but I think that's the point.

lunasera

Adam picked up more of the lyrical hints than most first watchers!

lunasera

When Jay says book he's meaning the musical's talking parts - that's called the book of a play/musical. But it's a bit confusing for non-theatre people

lunasera

Agreed, plus because of the whimsical nature and the fact that they have established witches everyone at that point is making Hogwarts comparisons by assumption. But the first Wicked book was released in 1995 and the first Harry Potter in 1997 anyway.

lunasera

This was an absolute treasure of a (2.5 hr) moment to watch with you guys.

Sly

God, this was so much fun. I read the book almost 20 years ago and never saw the musical so I have only the vaguest ideas of where things end up, so I'll be excited to watch part 2 when it rolls around.

Is this real?!?!?! This is what I've been waiting for and thought this day would never come! I've never done a watch-along, but this is THE moment! Procrastination on my thesis lives to fight another weekend. Thank you!

In the Opening Ceremony for Shiz, a Professor or Dean of Shiz is listing the different professors that are in the University faculy and runs down a list of biosciences and Madame Mombi for Biology and Doc Dillamond for History. Then they announce, "Although Real Magic has become very rare in Oz nowadays, we are lucky to have our very own Madame Morrible." While it's true we don't see Madame Morrible actually cast magic until well into the movie, they did mention how rare magic has become. It's just very easy to miss because it's buried in a convocation speech, and who really listens to them?

UGH thank goodness!! I watched this in theaters and had a good time, but this was WAYYYY more fun!! And Jay, you clearly underestimated the amount of vengeance in this movie, Adam couldn't help but like it.

Jaycee Williams

This …. I’ve seen the actual Broadway with the original cast, and I went to see the movie, but I admit, I greatly enjoyed the watchalong, especially with Adam’s raw reaction. Thank you.

Loved watching (and singing) along with you on this! Gregory Maguire wrote the book. He did not have a cameo. Winnie Holzman wrote the musical based on the book. She also wrote the screenplay to the movie. Stephen Schwartz wrote the lyrics and music. L. Frank Baum had a cameo as the face in the book that Galinda opens during one of the songs with Elphaba. And the actress Jay starts to talk about but forgets, because he’s caught up in the movie is Broadway alum and “Greatest Showman” standout Keala Settle who is playing a new character created just for the movie.

Molly Howard

With you on purple bob with a fork! She devoured her moments of screentime

Parker

Happy to watch this for the fourth time now with you two!

Parker

Also the dancing in the circular library things was all or mostly practical & he did all his own stunts

Eileen Hinman

Fun fact! Jonathan Bailey requested the same horse for Wicked that he has assigned to him on Bridgerton!!!

Eileen Hinman

I love that Jay is doing his best to not to spoil the references to The Wizard of Oz and Wicked, For Good.
