Rings of Power S2E01 Watch A Long

Hey Peaches! Let's head back to Middle Earth! The Elven rings have been made and Elrond is pissed! Our future Gandalf is wondering in the desert, and we get to see Sauron's origin. Well, this version of Sauron at least.

I don’t want to emphasize too much how tall Gandalf is, just adding it in there…he’s tall

The title is a reference to poem from the books (it's the epigraph so not a spoiler). "Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie."

Oh yeah, Gandalf's tall...

Looking forward to this watch along with you guys, oh by the way, Gandalf is tall isn't he?

Oh poor Tasha

Doubt me at your peril, Gandalf was tall

Don’t forget that Galadriel becomes Elrond’s mother in law in the far future. Looks like she was already acting like it. They had to add another Harfoot to the journey to emphasize how tall Gandalf is.

Man, I'm 6'4 and Gandalf is looking tall as hell man!

Are we not getting an Umbrella Academy Watch-A-Long?

Lore Dump 1/8: Sauron and the Istari/wizards are Maiar (lesser angels) and Morgoth was a Valar (greater angel), basically Middle-Earth Satan. Sauron’s reforming/resurrecting takes a long time, and gets longer every time he does it. Judging by how the timeline works in the show, it took at least 1000 years. The rings are very much MAAAGIC, but for the elves (in the books) it’s about maintaining their realms. I compare it to buying the gold clock in Stardew Valley. PS. Elf Helicopters? Guys, elficopters was RIGHT THERE. PPS. I’m loving these and can’t wait for the rest of the season. Keep it up, guys!

The three rings dont give invisibility but they do shield against evil, and enhance the powers of the wearer, while also having unique abilities. Narya - Cidan’s Ring - The Ring of Fire. Inspires others to resist tyranny, domination and despair, as well as vague fire powers Nenya - Galdriel’s Ring - The Ring of Water. Preserves and conceals evil, as well as vague water powers Vilya - Gil-Gald’s Ring - The Ring of Air. Possibly gives the ability to heal and to control the elements

Long tall stranger

I'm already enjoying season 2 more than season 1! I love that we're seeing a vulnerable Sauron, who is having to use strategy rather than godlike powers. New character Cirdan is important lore-wise because he's both one of the oldest elves in Middle-Earth (he can grow a beard) and the first ring-bearer. We probably won't see it on the show, but he ultimately gave his ring to Gandalf, who is VERY TALL WINK.

Gandalph is tall 😂

Joey (Hustlemando)

You guys nailed it with Sauron being Maiar like Gandalf and the other wizards. The reason he appears vastly more powerful than them is they were given explicit instructions only to inspire and motivate, never to lead—I forget the exact wording. Morgoth, on the other hand, was one of the Valar like the other gods (all subordinate to their One True God™ Eru Iluvatar.)

Taken For Pomegranted

Gandalf IS tall

Tay Schumaker

Wow, is it just me ? Gandalf's tall! Definitely taller than season 1. He must have his head screwed on right, otherwise he'd lose it (being so tall)......

The Great GazB

Now that forces are in motion across the world, even if the pacing of this episode betrayed the idea at times, it feels like we’ve actually got momentum now. Only thing that threw me was the recast for Adar (apparently the original actor bowed out to pursue other opportunities).
