Behind the Scenes 16 - June '22

Hey Peaches! The lull is over. We are officially in the typhoon of content. These are a few conversations Jay and I had before filming videos this past month. We talk about the Podcast that starts up later this summer. The nature of making content, and about life in general. Thank for sticking with us this past month, because the race is now on. The next few months...possibly from here to the end of the year, is going to be crazy!

How much fun would watching Lower Decks with these two be? :D

Matt Newmark

All Star Trek is extremely my cup of tea, so take my recommendations with a pinch of salt, but if you'd be up for some Trek that's leaning into the fun, give Lower Decks or Strange New Worlds a shot! Adam's right about DS9, it's SO good, definitely worth sticking through it finding its feet to get to the Good Stuff. It might be some kind of blasphemy, but I'd even call DS9 the gold standard Star Trek over TNG 😳

Well, duh...this was recorded a while ago so I am sure someone already said this. Nevermind...

Tasha Yar actually died toward the end of the 1st season.

Ditto Ranae……waiting for the watch along for Obi Wandsday. I feel like the review video cut out a lot of the best scenes

Where is the watch along for ObiWan episode 3?

Ranae

Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar) left TNG for a couple of reasons. The one everyone heard at the time was basically what Adam said: ratings were meh at that point, and she got offered the role of the mom in Pet Sematary (the first one). Less talked about until many years later, she (along with every other woman on the cast) was subject to a *lot* of gendered harassment. She tended to make a stink about it more than the others, though, and she would get punished in the form of making Yar’s entire backstory about sexual trauma (i.e., the rape gangs on her home planet, which didn’t even get a name until after she left the show). Like, I love TNG, too, but the behind-the-scenes stuff was almost as bad as it was on TOS. (Loving Star Trek is the ultimate form of “separating the art from the artist”, because it’s just an endless parade of people with monstrous behavior.)
