Fun

People really need to widen the scope of what they think animation can be. Too many people think of animation a childish or just for children, when CLEARLY you can see that isn't the case just by looking at Arcane.

"The honeymoon phase!... give me a Gatorade, and I'm good to Go!" Fucking Hilarious. p.s.- don't feel bad about that, Jay; clearly, you're an athlete and performer and care about your health.

Ted Alvia

"Strong enough to be live action" Jay, noooooooo, so hurtful... I'm going on a little bit of a tear here, but I hope you read my tone as one of joy and passion!! The style and design is the point of the show. Yes the dialogue and writing is strong and mature, but the advantage of style, camera, timing and color is what send the show as a whole to the next level. I'm not saying live action can't have deliberate style, but realistic actors necessitate realistic lighting, texures, and scale. If they did shoot it live, the sheer amount of greenscreen sets and special effects needed to match the energy and feel of this would make a "live action show" animated anyway--just in a grounded, hyper realistic style. It's a sad truth that some audiences dismiss all animation as being 'for kids', but the viewing metrics placed this as the highest watched show in the world! It stands out from the other epic fantasy shows airing now because of the animation. Nothing else looks like this. Nothing else feels like this! I'm loving the reactions, can't wait to see what you think of the finale!

Megan Lloyd

Looking forward to your team winning the Emmy awards this year. You guys (Riot Games and Fortische Studios) have knocked it out of the park. In my opinion, as far as quality in storytelling and world building is concerned, this is the bar that has been set in the realm of animation, and its certainly up there with "Breaking Bad" as one of my favorite shows of all time. Although, I just hope that we do see a definite and satisfying end to the arc that has been set up in Arcane and not just a never-ending saga that just gets stretched out for the sake of it.

I don't know what I laughed at harder... take your daughter to work day or no jaw straw!! 😂😂😂 As far as live action... I get what you're saying, but I'm more excited for animation as a whole just being better and deserving such great story!! Jay, I hope you talked your wife into watching anyway... it's sooo good!!

Oldish_Goalie

Dad is caring and mother is harsh and firm. It's not necessarily reversed. I also love it

Anna

Since you mentioned it as your rating, the disintegrated assistant was named Sky Young... who we saw as a little girl watching young Viktor launch his toy boat in the Undercity runoff / river.

Joseph Merino

When Adam asked Jay to rate it, what popped into my head was '1 falling boy out of 1 cement floor' Yes, I know I'm going to hell.

Brian Small

Before my patron time runs out, I just wanna say your excited at this show is awesome. I agree it would be cool to see an APEX show because those characters seem awesome. I appreciate what this studio has done so far and I’m excited to see what they create next. Also, Jay’s right about the ranking system. If you don’t like seeing new folks in your ranked matches, get out of that rank!

Julian Ortega

That chembaron kid wouldn't have bounced if it were live action

MajestNick

Noxus is my jam.

Alison Hawkes

Our casting director, who also did some of the voice directing, is a dude called David Lyerly. Ultra talented guy.

Alison Hawkes

And to get a feel for League MOBA, I'd recommend the more accessible experience of League of Legends: Wild Rift, our mobile game. Though there are multiple games now based in the world of Runeterra, and I'd ignore those gatekeeping the PC MOBA anyways.

Alison Hawkes

I understand Jay's comment about live-action, but the problem lies in Western culture's view of animation as a genre rather than a form or medium. The same as Comics. I'd rather hope that shows like Arcane, Invincible and others can turn the tide on that, rather than having to see live-action as a more legitimate way of telling stories. I'm also chuffed we went public with plans for Season 2 to allay any concerns that the story is over, or in the balance of continuing. There's a whole world out there... and though Noxus is a big part of it, you've just skated on the surface. And regarding the Runeterra IP... "Welcome to the party, pal!" :)

Alison Hawkes

Why did I binge Arcane watch along when the finale isn't up?! Oh, because I don't pay attention. Did I go ahead and watch the finale? YES. Do I regret it? NO. 🤣

Jen Smith

oh man, I was thinkin the SAME thing, "y'all need to shush at this critical relationship moment, ya knuckledraggers!!" (j/k bout the knuckledraggers part, but still, SHUSH!!)...lol...this episode was SO GOOOOOOOOOOD!!...and you guys are right, this would have been VERY difficult to wrap up in one more episode, so knowing there is a season 2 is GREAT!

Ray Reinders

This is a different animation studio but this LoL cinematic of Darius is why I'm hyped they're bringing in Noxus in Arcane. https://youtu.be/jlPP9a-zC2g

Erica

So I’ve been watching interviews from the voiceover actors and most if not all were cold reading, Jinx voice actor said sometimes Vi’s voice actor would record some stuff ahead of time and she would hear how vi’s voice actor would say things and she would match with the situation and energy. Sadly because of Covid most of the voice actors had to do cold readings and went off with pre recording of each other Just shows more how talented these voice actors are and riots team for pulling this off cause this sounds like they were all in the same studio recording

Buffy

PLEASE! if you reacted to episode 9 already could you please post the reaction today as well and not tomorrow I LOVE YOUR GUYS REACTIONS SO MUCH AHHH I DONT WANNA WAIT😭

Jasmin Baus

Totally agree. This show is a great starting point because it is grounded. It is the easiest starting point. While hextech and yordles are something new, most of the cast is human and the setting is a city. I cannot even imagine, it would have be something on the level of Dune (2021) if they wanted to create a live-action show depicting Mount Targon, Shurima or the Void. Even then I am afraid of too much CGI. Not to mention that more than half of the characters are creatures with such bonkers stories and abilities.

Leo

Not me shouting "STOP TALKING WHILE CAIT FALLS FOR VI!"

Jonathan Frederick

I love how Cait's parent's have flipped parental roles. The dad is more motherly, caring for his daughter's feelings, aiding her medically. While the mom was the firs to burst into her room with a rifle ready to kill an intruder. LOVE IT.

Jonathan Frederick

People can say what they want about Silco... but he truly cares for Jinx. He's fucked up himself. He doesn't know how to be a good father or parent. And he doesn't have the capacity to "fix" Jinx... I dont know if anyone does. No character once has mentioned therapy yet. Just "she's gone." So I wonder if they dont have a concept of mental health in this universe. Maybe if youre gone youre just gone... sick almost. So Vi finally turning on Jinx could be a product of Vi believing Jinx is "broken" and there is no way to fix that in this world. With all that said... Silco is doing his best to give Jinx the father he never had... the father or family member he lost in Vander. Silco is a GREAT bad guy. Yes, he is a bad guy. There is no confusing that. But his character is truly deep and complex. He loves. He cares. But he is truly misguided.

Jonathan Frederick

Yup I second that motion. The script, story and voice acting are all A class and could translate to live action. What pushes Arcane to Triple A world phenomenon is the art style. Can you imagine trying to do Jinx’s reality breaks in LV, all the CG money in the world and it would look funky cause it’ll be next to a human type person. Animation is the right medium for this story the way it’s being told, and to retell it differently in live action it would lose “that” which makes it great. I think that’s why most if not all Netflix LA anime adaptions don’t work they lose “that” which you can’t define.

TakumiUK

Also just wait for this finale episode, yall are gonna lose your minds. It is beautiful.

Bailey Malanczuk

OMG this show!!!! One of the best of the year to be sure. I was already subscribed but introducing this show to me is worth a lifetime membership. Peaches never say die!!

Jason Graf

My understanding of the Jinx and Ekko fight is that Ekko was remembering, picture perfect, how Jinx has fought him in the past when they played as kids. GAME SPOILERS................ Ekko can kind of control time in the game. But that isn't what we saw in the episode. I think they made it seem like time bending to give an easter egg to people who know what Ekko can do in the game. Maybe Ekko could do that if he got more powerful... who's to say. But in the fight, it was just an interesting shooting style... much like how we saw the bomb go off in EP3 multiple times. It only went off once but we saw it replay from multiple POV. I think that's what we got in Jinx Vs Ekko. Multiple POV... first what Ekko remembers from back when, probably even what Jinx remembers from back when, then we see it again as it goes down with them being older.

Jonathan Frederick

The community is very toxic true, but as long as you play with friends and mute chat it is fine. If you let petty insults from little kids get to you....well that is on you.

Leo

Apex Legends show would be lit.

Jack Fuerstenberg

its for their own good that they don't try it out.

Jack Fuerstenberg

League is easily the worst and best game I have ever played, and I have been playing for 10+ years now since the beginning of league. Some of the best moments and worst moments of all time. But anyone complaining about new players are just bad and also new.

Bailey Malanczuk

MC Hammer - Can't touch this, also work... Hammer Time!!!

Thierry Fournier

i dont play anymore but i think what they meant by getting new people to play league because its an extremely competitive game which makes it extremely toxic unfortunately

Trae Brodnik

I love this show, and I love watching you guys enjoy it as well.

Templar Armos

https://youtu.be/Kp1z8EzZ5Hs Nuff said. Hope that link worked🤞

Arcane is also breaking ranking records everywhere: IGN 10/10, IMDB 9.4/10, Rotten Tomatoes 100% critics and 98% Audience Fortiche, the French studio making Arcane, are know for most of the recent LoL Youtube videos (K/DA, the Council Archives and Imagine Dragons Warriors for the 2014 LoL world championship), they also behind Marvel's Rocket and Groot.

Thierry Fournier

when Viktor ran I waited for them to notice the ship in the backround and how he was able to catch up to it. I loved that detail!

Martinbumms

When Viktor started running on the pier, I was waiting for someone to say: ''Run Forrest, RUN!'' It also made me laugh out loud when Vi did the Henry Cavill, Mission Impossible, Guns Reloaded move before going into battle with the shimmer-cyborgs. I can't wait for episode 9 watch along!!!

Thierry Fournier

I'm not even sure if you would reach a wider audience, just a different one. And a story can be amazing but it'll fail if you can't tell it accordingly. I mean Heimerdinger...you can't do a character like Heimerdinger that amazing in live action

Martinbumms

Also, Jay's impression of drinking a milkshake through a straw alone has been worth the patreon support fee.

Brendan Arntz

The Cowboy Bebop live action is a pretty good testament to how pushing things that don't belong in live action into that space without consideration can go...sideways. It isn't all bad but there are definite things (EDWARD) that just...don't work transported into live action. Live action COULD work but you have to be realistic about the ways it'll change what you're seeing and I agree that it probably wouldn't improve Arcane and might degrade it instead.

Chris

I agree, I think you would lose a lot translating this to live-action. The action pieces would suffer and honestly, no CGI or set maker is going to make gorgeous landscape and scenery like they do in this series.

Templar Armos

inject episode 9 inside of me like...now

Jason Marbach

Gimme the next one, yum yum!

Brendan Arntz

I think this is the show of the year. And no one saw it coming

Kevin Cleary

Would love to see you guys play the arcane characters on League :D

Dominique Spruyt

I agree with a lot of what Jay was saying about it reaching a larger audience live-action, but I think from the other side, a show like this does a lot to help legitimize animation as a separate adult art form. Yes a lot of people won't watch because of the stigma, but a lot will try it because it's so well done, and then maybe that stigma will start to break down. I don't think the future is everything good becoming live action, that keeps failing. Instead, the future might be more of a variety of mediums being playgrounds for strong and compelling content.

Will bonney

I love Jay, but I think he's wrong with Arcane is good enough for being a live-action show. I mean it is, but I think it is that good because it is an animation show. You never could be that stylised and over the top insane in live-action. That's why anime almost never works in live-action.

Martinbumms

"This...is Vi. From the hallway."

Jason Marbach

about making it live action, i say it would be detrimental. you can have way more freedom in animation on lower budget
