To Those Who Wait - cosmic horror collage (WIP)

A random one, this, but we thought some of you might enjoy it!

To Those Who Wait - Chapter One

One work-in-progress project I've had on the back-burner for a while is the idea of an investigative true-crime podcast that spirals into cosmic horror; our spin on the classic Black Tapes / Limetown format, but very much with our own preoccupations and weirdness baked in from the start.

The problem of doing that format as an audio-drama is that you'd really need a fresh stable of voice-actors to make it feel distinct from I Am In Eskew (with me or Muna voicing the lead and taking on a lot of narration duties - the easiest and quickest solution! - it'd feel far too similar), and I didn't really feel that was something we could take on right now.

Anyway, when I've been working on the same project for a long time and I'm feeling like I need to reset, I often find the best solution is to take a hard right turn and do something that's a completely new discipline, and ideally as strange as humanly possible.

So over the Christmas break I had a go at converting the first chapter as a 20-page cut-up / collage comic-book - I can't draw, so it's just a crude exercise, using licenced stock photography, in mapping out the idea and trying to learn some panel composition skills.

I'm provisionally chatting to an illustrator friend as I'd really love to take an actual swing at the concept with some proper art, but we thought it might be fun to at least share it as a rough proof-of-concept, since doing anything more with it is a pipe dream at this point!

You can find the full chapter here on a hidden page on our website, and there's a PDF with alt text descriptions attached to this post as well.

(P.S. This is an idea with long legs - literally and metaphorically.

One of the earlier versions of The Silt Verses was an idea that we could create a single-narrator audio-drama about a comic-book writer losing himself in an increasingly horrible vision of water and crustaceans which he describes to his increasingly horrified creative partner.

A lot of this ended up flowing through into Chapter 8 in Season One of TSV, and in general the tensions around solo accomplishment versus collective action.

It was called Maupassant, and I've attached a draft of the intended first episode as well for the curious.)

I finally had the time to read this fully and chew on it and I love just how uncanny it all is

As a dabbler in collage, I'm seriously impressed! This is very unsettling, in a fantastic way.
