Unity Security Vulnerability Patched! Baldi's Basics Plus version 0.12 Pre-release is available now!

Update 2: A hotfix addressing a Unity security vulnerability has just released.

Just updating this post to let you all know that I've patched the Windows and MacOS versions of the pre-release to fix the recently discovered Unity security vulnerability. This was primarily for Steam users who likely still have the pre-release installed, but I figured I should post the patched builds here as well. Please update the game as soon as you can! The Linux version has not been updated as Unity has not provided a patcher for Linux builds as they have determined that the vulnerability does not add additional risk to Linux users. The versions with "_patched" in the file name contain the fix. The other versions do not, so please take caution and ensure your operating system and anti-virus is up to date before downloading them.

Update: Hey everyone, there were some nasty bugs in the first pre-release (Mainly the possibility of a room generating such that it was impossible to exit) so I'm releasing an update! This update includes several bug fixes as well as tweaks to the new activities based on feedback. Here's hoping things are bit more balanced now!

Here is the pre-release for version 0.12! Windows, MacOS and Linux builds are attached to this post. Download and extract them to play!

This is a pretty small update, which adds some new content to the game. I'll keep the contents a secret here, but if you check out the game's about screen you can get some more info about what's new!

Please note that I had a cold a couple weeks ago, which caused me to fall behind schedule. I'm better now, but because of the lost time I've ended up having to use several placeholder assets. I will try to have finalized assets ready for the public release, but just know that much of what you see and hear is not final!

One other note, there's a specific new piece of content that I haven't properly optimized yet and it may cause performance issues. If you encounter any unusual performance issues, please let me know and describe just how bad things get.

I had insane trouble with the new content during the pre releases, but now Im used to them and can complete them in about 15 seconds. Even getting maintenance on floor 5 is a minor inconvenience at this point.

Hear me out: make a feature where if your computer is set to a certain holiday (whether that be setting the time or actually being a holiday), the sprites change. Like if its December, the school will get Christmas themed decorations and Baldi will have a Santa outfit, or if its March 31st the characters use their birthday bash sprites. Also maybe a definitive ChromeOS port.

The update is pretty good. but here is feedback on it specifically: 1. Apparently, you can earn 10K YTPs before Floor 4 according to a comment. I didn't see it thoroughly (been playing Schoolhouse Large Endless mostly), though i think it's because of Balloon Buster awarding YTPs for each popped balloon. Either the reward should be removed, or decreased to something like 5, or maybe even 3 0r 1, even though it doesn't round to 5 nicely. 2. I think that bonus questions shouldn't award stamina, because previously, bonus questions served as an additional way of YTPs without replacing the notebooks, and it was challenging in a fair way to aim for them without a stamina boost. Now, it basically just replaces the notebooks; you get YTPs, Baldi pausing, AND the stamina, like the notebooks. 3. In Schoolhouse Small, a bad bug causes every notebook after the 1st to not disappear when being clicked on, meaning you can just Cookie Clicker the 2nd notebook. 4. There is still a bit of a issue with the new activities: For example, you still get harder layouts like the nonsquare ones for Match Machine (with you not being able to see all the balloons together), and Balloon Buster with tile pillars to block view of other balloons that might be in the room, alongside with easier ones for them in Floor 3. I think they should appear only since Floor 4 or 5, and there should be a weight on each activity and each room type too, to make harder activities/rooms rarer. 5. Also, you might consider limiting the amount of matches you need to make in Match Machine to 2 or 3 (perhaps increasing it after Floor 3), and, in Balloon Buster, decreasing the maximum amount of balloons that spawn in the room (Maybe about 7 or 8 in Floor 3, increasing by 2 per each new floor) and that you have to have left when pulling a pulley (I suggest to about 5 in Floor 3, increasing by 1 per each new floor).

Not sure if this is intentional or not, I cannot complete any of the balloon buster nor number matching classrooms when I have a high amount of notebooks due to Baldi always being on my tail.

Hey Mystman! A suggestion I have is to make certain Balloon Buster rooms (The ones that have walls and other things that can obstruct counting) Rarer in earlier levels where players are still being introduced to the mechanic. This would help with learning the minigame easier for new players!

in the match machine game, if you press a balloon and priceable sends you to detention. Then the balloon glitches out. and you cant use any other balloons

Rarely, one of balloons in the Balloon Buster may not be popped after pulling the pulley, resulting in an incorrect answer. In the same activity, there is a rare chance that the counter says 0 balloons left even though there are some balloons left in a classroom.

This can happen on other notebooks as well. Once the player collects the first notebook, notebooks in other classrooms will not despawn even after collecting them.

MAJOR BUG: In Endless Mode, Schoolhouse Small, the SECOND notebook you get, you can click on it INFINITE times for as many notebooks as you want. (0.12 PRERELEASE 2)

Hey, I’m really liking the update so far! Just wanted to let you know of a bug I found where Dr. Reflex’s test cannot be beaten when he is squished by a balder. Also, not sure if this is intentional or not, but notebooks on the 1st floor do not refill stamina.

I've seen someone else mention this bug. where in the laboratory level type, if Arts & Crafters circles you while getting teleported from the wormhole room, you'll be unable to move until being teleported from Arts & Crafters. However, this bug can send you out of bounds as well. After getting teleported from the wormhole room, I couldn't move, then Arts & Crafters teleported me a second later, and I ended up out of bounds. I'm not sure if the seed is necessary for this kind of bug, but just in case, here it is: -1505582307 I've also taken a screenshot of me being out of bounds, so I might as well share this too: https://imgur.com/a/qxafC3K

I really like the new activities, especially with the balance changes in the patch, but I do think the new ones give a bit too much YTPs now. I've had 7K+ before level 4 at least 2 times I think. The bonus questions also give double YTPs, I'm not sure if it's intentional or not. The new activities also add new rooms for the classrooms, I've been waiting for something like this for a while. The new events are also nice to see, I think that Balder Dash stands out because it gives the level a pernament change until the round ends, I hope to see more things that can do that added to the game. Student Shuffle is fun just from the way the students interact with vents and Laboratory wormholes, but it can sometimes feel unfair because you can just be pushed right into Baldi sometimes. I really like the update overall, just simply new content, the type of updates I hope to see more. I give the update a 4731/5023.

I might be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure Baldi went through the BSODA because his gravity position was different compared to the BSODA. (So, Baldi couldn't interact with it.)

it's part of the sprite's texture in the files, the whole texture is meant to be passed through, too complicated and unnecessary to fix.

Bug: If you go into the wormhole on the laboratory floor type, then get teleported by Arts and Crafters, you won't be able to move. The game acts like your still in the wormhole in this scenario, then it will teleport you after a few seconds.

the new changes to the way activities work are great, especially since the match machine is a whole lot more fun now (also wasnt expecting my random lock suggestion to be added)! ive only got a handful of minor issues: - i don't think balloons should be tangible if a room is powered off, to prevent the activity from being made unwinnable - something about the shape lock change causes locked doors to falsely display as normal doors on the map - notebooks on floor 1 not restoring stamina feels a bit inconsistent with the fact that they CAN award ytps, since it basically fulfills only half of the rewards for completing activities now

I love all the new changes! This also makes it more worth it to go for those bonus questions! The new changes to Chalkles are great as well! I do wish he wouldn't despawn after completing a "MATH MACHINE" as it's now too easy. Maybe similar to how when you match a number, he only gets delayed a tiny bit since it's the easiest educational activity.

okay I just wanted to say that i love Chalkles now. He is so perfectly balanced, he's still a bit of a challenge in the new rooms and that is good! It's not nearly as hard as before.. I love that he's more of a threat than he was in previous versions.

All of the small updates are the best small updates ever! These new activities COMPLETELY changed my way of playing, because of a lot of ytps is for that new activities! Also new events are funny and for now I didn't have unlucky to meet Balder event in H&S. Also can I suggest you to change time bonus time for F4? Like I mean F2 is way easier than F4 now, especially the fact that F4 has new activities and F2 not, 5 minutes is also too small, especially for maintenance as of now I can't beat maintenance F4 under 5 minutes to get 200 ytps reward. I would like to see F4 time bonus timer to be changed to 6 minutes, its perfect or if you would treat it like too big then change it to 5:29

In the Small Schoolhouse level in Endless, Notebooks other than the first one you collect will not disappear upon collection, allowing you to get TONS of Notebooks, YTPs and item respawns. It's a funny bug, but definitely still an issue.

The tape player affects the Balders/Boulders, which by itself is funny and I (personally) think should be kept. However, when the Balder is crushed/destroyed, it begins to move again due to the tape.

The Boots poster still has Big Ol' Boots, which were changed to Techno-Boots in V0.10. I assume this is likely an oversight unlike It's a Bully's description in the Principal's office.

While I have gotten used to the match minigame and it's pretty fun actually! but the balloon buster is just hard to keep track of the balloons which there are maximum of 10. since these are big room level layouts there's different kinds of room layouts that has pillar walls In the room which makes it harder to keep count of when the balloons are moving. I think you should change the rooms or nerf the mini game. but that was the only thing I disliked about this prerelease

That does sound like a bug, but fyi, you can use the principal keys to unlock any door so you could still have opened it if you had them. In fact, anyone can try it now and the principal keys will unlock the door even with the lock, but you still won't be able to go inside because of the big lock blocking you.

I had the same bug, but the NPCs could get in and out as they ignore collision for some things from what I've seen. (For example, Ms. Pomp kept going in and out of the room but failing to drag me out). Also, you must have got in because when the door closes it for some reason pushes you a bit. But not the other way around. I myself got out once but idk how. I think the open house or bolder event got me out somehow but I'm not sure.

Balloon buster is fun except sometimes too long. The match machine is just bad, I love the idea but it is HORRIBLY executed, honestly making the rooms that big is insane. Having the new educational activities be that much harder than the math machine sucks, they should be very quick and simple (and chalkles now UGHHH). I couldn't even get past the third floor. I think this pre release needs much more work.

A bug i found was that if you get detention when you are flipping a question mark over on the match machine and go back to that room it will bug out and you will not be able the finish the level :/

Hey, a bug I found: Some of the stands for the notebooks sometimes generates in front of the door making it extremely hard to get in or out. The new match machine takes way too long and most of the time, I end up getting it wrong due to rushing to prevent Chalkles from spawning or if Baldi is right outside the door. The other new one takes less time but is hard to count the balloons sometimes because they keep moving. The new Student Shuffle event is annoying sometimes and the Boulder one is also sometimes annoying due to getting squished almost every second but not as annoying as the student one. But this is just me, there might be some other people who think the opposite of me. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the pedestal of the new mini games sometimes spawns right in front of the door preventing entering or exiting. But I highly doubt no one reported that yet.

i agree with what everyone's saying about chalkles, i also believe that the new activities can take too long. i understand there's meant to be a risk behind getting notebooks but they take way longer compared to the math machine, especially the match machine which i think the amount of balloons or matches required needs to be reduced. still great additions, they just need some tweaking. will comment on the new events after playing around with them some more

I know everyone is talking about Chalkles being more punishing in the new educational activities rooms. Personally, I think this is fine and makes him more of an actual threat which is fun! I do think most rooms with these new activites should be more simple to navigate. The math machine rooms could be the ones with the more complex room layouts.

Hey, I love the new activities and events! But there's one issue, and that is Chalkles. I notice that when Chalkles is in one of the new rooms I keep having to exit or let him lock it with no inbetween. He wasn't an issue on the math rooms because you were only there for a few seconds, but you're going to be in the new room for around 30 seconds at least (unless you're lucky), and that is way to long for Chalkles (in fact, in the one with the match 2, I noticed that he actually completed his laughing and unlocked the door right when I finished). Can you please make Chalkles take longer to charge up in those rooms to even his difficulty?

Honestly, I LOVE the new machines! They are so fun to do and it's pretty refreshing to have some new activity. I can already do them pretty fast. Match machine is definitely my favorite! The only problem I have, is Chalkles. Maybe give him a longer timer in the new classrooms? Or just don't make him appear in them at all. To the new events, I read that there are two, but only seen one (at least i think so) and i really like it!

Ok so this update is pretty cool! I like the balloon minigame and the new events. Though one criticism I have is the match machine, it can be really stressful at times, it makes you have to remember too much and it doesnt help that Chalkles exists. Maybe nerf him in match machine classrooms, I do like the idea though it doesnt really work well for me

Okay, first impressions. I do not like the matching number activity. It takes way too slow to get a notebook and it doesn't help that it requires much more brain power to get while ALSO keeping track of other things. Plus Chalkles exists. If it were reduced to only one match required to get the notebook, I think it'd be better. Also, with the new activities implemented, I'm starting to believe Baldi's speed increase is too punishing for getting one wrong. The new events are fun! I love them both! Student Shuffle and Balders can be really funny and fit the game nicely with what chaos they can bring! I don't know if I'll post more about this pre release yet since I'm busy with stuff, but I do hope this update is balanced well and I wish you the best, Mystman.

Overall, most of the additions here seem pretty nice! My only issue as of now is that Chalkles might be a bit problematic in the Match Machine activity, as while the activity itself isn't too bad once you understand it, it still takes a while. I've not been able to test the events too much, but they seem alright, and I really like the Balloon Buster activity! It's nice seeing the red balloons again. Great stuff all around!

I really love this update! Both events are fun and the new educational activities are a nice addition as well. I can't wait for the public release! I do have a couple of suggestions: - Make the matching numbers not have a long cooldown until you can click another number - Make the Grappling Hook more effective in the Student Shuffle event, the item feels weaker in the sea of students - Bsodas and Nana' Peels should stop boulders during the event (Unless they do, I haven't really experimented much) - Make matching number rooms not too long - Make the balloons stationary (the ones required to pop) for easier counting

Cool update, though I'd like to give some feedback on it, but also some on the general game (I'll give more in the future): 1. I think that the maximum amount on the match in Balloon Buster rooms should be reduced, because it becomes a bit overwhelming to have to repeatedly check for balloons to be 100% sure that you got the right amount. Some rooms compound the difficulty, such as the 4 one blocking view of all the balloons. 2. In general, I think that the new activities may be too long, and should be shortened. 3. Pillars in Match Machine rooms may block doors. 4. I don't know the inner workings of the event well, so I might say something inaccurate. However, I think the Student Shuffle performance issues may be helped by compressing the amount of student crowd entities into a few with larger hitboxes, rather than many with small hitboxes. 5. Imagine cartoon (inconsistent art style) construction workers fixing windows destroyed by Balders after the event ends. 6. You shouldn't be able to give squished students lost items (to give Balders and angry Dr. Reflex squishing them an actual function) 7. Gravity Chaos's flippers pausing the gameplay as the rotation animation plays becomes cumbersome as you run into more. It should either be made instantaneous, quicker, or the old animation function can be brought back (running into flippers with an animation already playing can be made that the rotation turns the other way). Also, captions go through part of their duration during the pause. 8. In the Balloon Buster activity, if the amount of balloons required in the room by the answer submission is 0 and you then submit it, there will be no right number to compare the amount of balloons that are vs. should be in the room. 9. I've gotten characters going out of bounds and surprising me when coming back in bounds a few times. Baldi and Gotta Sweep are 2 examples. 10. The text on the chalkboards explaining the activities has numerous translucent pixels that make it a bit unpleasant to look at. 11. Map pins should be able to appear in 3D space like the markers. Also a few things I liked and wanted to mention: 1. I like that in the Match Machine activity, Baldi will praise the player for finding each match, not just completing the activity. 2. The way I memorize each balloon is by using map markers or pins, numbers for -1-3, letters for 4-6, and pins for 7-9.

The Match Machine is a clever idea for a new activity, but it requires you to do way too many matches making chalkles' appearance a guarantee, and whenever you click on an incorrect pair the animation takes way too long. ideally, the balloons should be able to respond to player input at any time like the math machine, instead of having several seconds of mandatory waiting time in total. with the math machine (and balloon machine mostly), the only obstacle was how quickly you can process the information and navigate to the correct balloons, but with the match machine you also have to worry about built in delays while you're unable to press balloons

I really like this update!! I've been hoping we'd get new events soon since we haven't gotten any new ones since 0.3 (iirc). The new activities are also great, I especially enjoy balloon buster. However I think with how long it can take to make matches for the match machine activity, Chalkles should be slightly readjusted (possibly make it so his wake up timer resets overtime slightly faster?). I've also seen many talk about how there should be less matches in the match machine room, and I agree. Personally, I think the amount of matches should increase after every couple of floors. Other than that, this update adds a lot more variety to the gameplay and I'm really looking forward for what's next for Baldi's!! Also unrelated but Baldi's placeholder boulder event voiceline got me laughing lmao

While the new classroom machines are harder, i mostly like them. However, i feel like they should give more YTPs if you complete them, 25 seems too low for how much longer they can take compared to the normal math machine. In that vein, i also think they should have another benfit, maybe they give baldi less speed if you do them right, cause right now it might just be worth it to skip them and take the speed increase over doing them.

some bugs: getting teleported while doing the match minigame breaks it, you cant do it anymore. boulders (balders?) squish balloons, idk if this a bug or not but it does look odd lol Feedback: -Make the balloons in the count activity stationary, having to look all over the place for balloons to pop is kind of hellish, cause its a minigame that requires you to read the room under-pressure already, having so the balloons move makes it even more hard and i think its kind of overkill -make the match minigame be shorter, like the animation and the cooldown for "selecting" new numbers, the animations for it take too long thus giving time for baldi and chalkes to gang up for what is essentially the activity's fault not the player. -overhaul chalkes. he's starting to be very overkill, you now have to actively wait for him to fade-out outside from how fast he starts manifesting in the classrooms, i feared that eventually chalkes would get a massive difficulty spike from new activities or rooms and this seems to be the case. just overhaul him, waiting to progress is not fun and being punished by it isnt either -you know, for a game that is fast-paced and educational, i think having the new activities be explained by text isn't the greatest idea, maybe if you havent encountered a certain activity before baldi explains it to you through audio or you can have an audio explanation, cause new players who might start hide and seek first aren't exactly gonna... read.

this update is really fun, the new events had me dying of laughter, ESPECIALLY the boulders, and i loved finally seeing some new notebook activities too, those do a great job at shaking things up in some exciting ways. didnt play for very long, but these are the issues i came across: bugs: - texture layering in the balloon buster rooms was a little wonky, the balloons would ALWAYS show in front of the lever or number text, even if the balloons were positioned behind em - clicking the match machine balloons with the room powered off makes it impossible to win, but does reduce the balloons to ! marks, which makes it super easy to lose when its turned back on suggestions: - my only real complaint with this update is that the match machine can be pretty difficult and annoying, especially on its custom longer room layouts. i think a good way to balance it would be to restrict it to higher floors (as youve mentioned you will with maintenance), and/or to condense its unique layouts to be less straightaways and more checkerboard-like - this is a suggestion regarding 0.10 content, but i think the collision on the big shape locks should go away as soon as theyre unlocked, since waiting for them to shrink away can be a somewhat annoying time loss, especially if youre trying to evade some character

Been playing the demo a bit, I like it, Don't know if I've seen everything it has to offer yet, And I have some thoughts on what I've played so far... (Spoilers for the beta obviously) The new "Match Machine" (I think those are the names?) classrooms are a cool idea, But some of the layouts the room can come feel far too large, And even the smaller rooms can be time consuming enough to practically make Chalkles a inevitable occurrence. Shortening the rooms by cutting them from 4 pairs of balloons to 3 pairs of balloons would be a godsend, and at least slowing Chalkles' progression would be nice if not. The "Balloon Popping" rooms are also pretty fun, But they sometimes can feel luck based when the counter for balloons is required to be 7, 8, or even a 9. Counting the balloons can be fairly time consuming, And having to get exactly 7 or higher can be very difficult when you have to watch for Chalkles as well as Baldi. The only other problem I experienced so far was the podiums in the new classrooms being able to block doors. If you get unlucky, You can sometimes get a completely inaccessible room, Or you could even be softlocked in one if you accidentally teleport in one.

Pretty neat additions, my only issue with this update currently is the matching event. It takes WAY too much time compared to the other activities and whether you get it right is also ENTIRELY reduced to luck. I would suggest lowering the amount of matches you need to make to at most 3. I feel like the activity encourages you to get it wrong with how long it takes and how quickly Baldi can show up while you are doing it

im going to be completely honest. this update needs a second pre release. as of right now it makes the game so hard that i cannot get past the third level at this point. the balloon puzzle is overcomplicated, the other ones always make chalkes go off and the house event only affects the player. my suggestions is to make the balloon event easier, make chalkes loose the cooldown that was added in 0.4, make chalkles appear slower in cetrain rooms and make the house event affect other characters as when i played it nobody besides myself was affected. i tried beating it for a solid hour before giving up. if the final version of this ends up being just more polish and doesnt adress the major issues i listed im sticking with 0.11
