Hello everyone!
I hope you all enjoyed the first 0.8 pre-release! Now that some time has passed, how are you all feeling about the time limits? Too short, too long, or just right?
With that said, I'm happy to announce that the second 0.8 pre-release has just been launched! Windows, MacOS and Linux builds are attached to this post. Download and extract them to play!
This pre-release adds the new hallway generation and structure. It also features a new, streamlined structure generating/loading system which will make it easier for me to create new structures in the future. Although this new system is in place for randomly generated levels, I haven't gotten all the loading functionality finished quite yet, so premade maps are disabled in this pre-release. I'll have all the premade maps converted to the new system for the public release of 0.8.
I have not yet implemented the dynamic open-area system I mentioned in a previous status update. That has proven to be more difficult than I thought it would be when I wrote about it!
Conveyor belts have also been temporarily removed as I was in the middle of a big overhaul of how they work. They should return early next year!
I was hoping that there would be more to this update, but unfortunately life got in the way. Still, much of what I've worked on in this update paves the way for future plans, so stay tuned!
Please note that there are a handful of placeholder assets still being used in some places.
A few notes about the pre-release:
Please be mindful of spoilers! It is a-okay to share photos and video of the pre-release, this isn't meant to be a big secret, but please do so in a way that people who want to be surprised by new stuff can easily avoid getting spoiled. For example, please don't put pictures of new content in thumbnails. Once this update has been released publicly, don't worry about spoilers.
The pre-releases will use a separate save location from the main game. You can manually copy existing saves over to the pre-release save location if you'd like to use an existing save.
I will most likely only release patches for pre-releases if any super serious bugs are found. Otherwise bug fixes will be saved for the public release version.
I do not have a changelog ready at the moment. I will post one when the public release goes live. Have fun discovering what's new!
Please do not post these builds publicly anywhere, they are meant for Patrons only. That said, I certainly won't mind if people share them amongst close friends who cannot become paid members for any reason.
This being a pre-release, bugs new and old are likely! Please let me know of any new bugs you encounter by commenting below or sending me an email.

Whenever school is out, all of the exits will be open, but if you escape and still haven't collected all of the notebooks, it will not give you ANYTHING at all, no YTPs, no power bonuses, no time bonuses and no grades, the grade will be automatically set as F- and the run won't count as a winning run.

On the first floor there isn't much to do other than collect 4 notebooks and poke into faculty rooms, and I think 5 minutes it's a bit much for that. Floor 2 is a lot more engaging and did a few runs on different where I collected all 7 + the 6 bonus questions and I still had plenty of time lafe, same for floor 9. I think if each limit was shortened by 2 minutes it could be more challenging, or you could add different time modes, like with the lives mode thingy.

2024-12-05 04:06:24 +0000 UTCi found more bugs. but both of these bugs are from endless mode. bug #1/2 for some reason. quarters do not spwn in endless mode. so you can only get them from johnny's shop. bug #2/2 for some reason only baldi and principal are the only ones that spawn in endless mode. i tried lots of seeds. but its only them.

2024-12-04 19:19:41 +0000 UTCI found that there is no time limit feature in Explorer Mode because it always features as 00:00 like Endless Mode after Baldi finishes countdown. I'm not sure whether it is a glitch or not, but I think this may be done on purpose as the description says "Baldi won't bother you in this mode!". Baldi announces events and timer running out is also one of them.

2024-12-04 07:07:07 +0000 UTCHere's some feedback I have (including a few nitpicks): - If you choose to skip the Pit Shop or leave it while you have the Bus Pass, there should be a popup reminding you that you have the Bus Pass. - While in the vents, sometimes you will enter cells that have a special effect like they do when you're in the floor, but they shouldn't: for example, while going in a vent, sometimes, you will go through the library, causing the sound to become muted and unmuted. - The vents could also be marked more clearly on the map; currently, they appear as missing walls in rooms, which looks more like a part of an open area separated by 1 wall, kind of like some pre-made open areas that can occasionally appear in halls. - Some seeds also feature vents appearing in the Principal's Office, which allows you to just get out of detention and walk the halls freely, albeit with Principal chasing you if he sees you. - Also, if I'm not wrong, the playground and Principal's Office activate their rule-free-ness by clearing the player's guilt, not making the Principal ignore the guilt, in the code. This means, for example, that for the former, you could just get out of detention with 90 seconds left and go to the Playground, then get out and the Principal will be chill with you as long as you don't break other rules in his sight. You may implement other actions with very long guilt lingers, so keep that in mind. - Also, the YCTP's "outline" looks different in the pause menu and the advanced map. - I think that Baldi should hear you going into and out of a vent. - Playtime may act weird when you go out of and immediately back into her sight. (I think she may keep going to the other destination) - If you select a marker in the advanced map and enter the "placing marker" mode, you should be able to unselect it by pressing some key or dragging it back to its corresponding button, then clicking on it. - Also, if you have selected a marker, then exit the advanced map and go back, the text that reads "placing marker" will stay there even when it's no longer selected. - I think that the music for the "Time's Out" feature should be more like those unused "TransitionTestLoop" Midis found in the game's files, which I feel has a more fittingly eerie and tense atmosphere. Currently, the music just sounds like an epic jungle theme. - I'm not sure if the grade and time bonuses are multiplied by the life multiplier, but if they aren't, I think they should, because it's more impressive for you to get the highest grade possible, and also complete the floor in a short amount of time, when you do it in only 1 life.

2024-12-03 22:17:30 +0000 UTCFirst off, I feel like I need to point out a pretty bad bug with the vents, where it appears that characters can see the player when travaling in the vents, for example the principal can scold the player even if he's not on the ground, I feel like it should take priority to be fixed since it can lead to unfairness. The vents themselves are pretty fun, aside from the audio jank, and there should be a sound cue when a npc is about to exit a vent. The level generation changes are a bit of a mixed bag so far for me, primarly due to levels being smaller in general, and that the extreme dead ends were fun. Now because levels are smaller in size, the time limits definitely should be decerased now. I also dont like that the rotohall and coin doors get introduced in floor 2 now, since now the only new structure in floor 3 are the vents, and i've always felt like floor 3 needs more things for itself, mainly because im awaiting the moment floor 4 gets added. Lastly, in endless mode random, no npc besides baldi and principal spawn.

I love the new possible spots for the storage locker, pay phone, and water fountains. I'm also glad the potted plants aren't exclusive to floor 1 anymore! I did not expect roto-halls and coin doors to be able to spawn on floor 2! The new structure is also something very unique and cool! I never would have thought it would be readded to the game! I have one issue with it though. I feel like sometimes when the path for vents are created, they take a very long route just to plop you right beside where you started. Overall, I think they are awesome and they often are very useful for travel! (One thing that scared the life out of me was when Mrs. Pomp followed me into the vents) Finally, the new additions to overtime. I love the new sound effects and they really surprised me! My favorite part is the new music and it shocked me when I first played it. It makes the gameplay feel intense and I love it! Please keep the testing overtime mode because I think it is extremely fun! I love this game and I can't wait for future updates!

2024-12-03 19:24:38 +0000 UTCthe way levels load now reminds me of the way earlier versions of plus generated for some reason speaking of generation id like to share two bugs where Vents tend to overlap on lights in premade rooms or other vents that are generated (vents being overlapped I tend to find these more common in endless mode for some reason) while being in a vent during the start of the gravity vent the entire schoolhouse will flip and everything will be visible until out of the vent

I feel the time limit on floor 1 should be shorter considering it's such a quick level and I do think there should be a more obvious indicator that your detention time is up, also I'm so happy that the vents have finally been implemented, I remember finding out about those unused assets long ago.

2024-12-03 00:47:54 +0000 UTCgreen lockers and phones were spawning in the classrooms and faculty, I'm not sure if this is intentional but I noticed it, however the phone spawned on the 3rd floor and I used a quarter on it but it didn't take the quarter but used it's phone ability still. Another bug was I got the gravity event and while it was switching midway I went through a vent and I could for some reason see through the entire school and I was way above the vents. Also someone else asked for this and I agree, the vent should have a sound effect because most of the time it's completely silent because your out of bounds from the main school.

When using any item to get out of the principal's office early, you cannot see how much time you have left. A suggestion to fix this is to have an icon somewhere on the screen (like a wanted poster or a angry principal) while you are in detention. 2. You know the time limit test feature, well never remove it. I actually find it really fun playing with only 1 minute on each floor, and it is possible so this could be a great opportunity for a setting. 3. I'm not sure putting the play styles in the settings was a good idea. There are a lot of people that don't know they exist because they don't bother checking the settings. I would suggest what you did with the fun styles menu in BBCR, where after you click H&S it transistions to another menu witht the play styles. This would also be a great place to put the 1 minute timer suggestion and the seed picker. Maybe even some more cheats and fun styles in the future (no pressure on that tho) Bugs/Issues: 1. You can access the gameplay settings while in game (doesn't change anything but doesn't make sense, especially because you cannot access save settings) 2. I see that strict mode was replaced with intense mode. I'm not sure if anything is different but when you hover over the setting it still calls it strict mode in the description. 3. Dying in the lowest light setting makes the UI permenently dark until you go back in a dark area and come out. (I haven't had time to test if this bug still exists in release 2) 4. Lockdown doors can be seen peeking out from the bottom of vents during the venting proccess. Something I Emailed You About But You Misunderstood: So I am colorblind, and personally I have a hard time seing the ketchup on the hotdog, being that reds are darker to me. Please consider adding a feature where you could turn the ketchup a lighter color (like blue). NOTE: what you misunderstood is you accidentally though I was talking about the contrast between ketchup and mustard (which is fine) not the ketchup and the dog. Unless that was a typo and to that I say, sorry for bothering you with this again! Positive Affirmations (Because This Is By Far The Best Update): 1. Oh wow, I did not expect you to be able to fix the weird side portion on the map but you managed to do so and it looks SICK!! 2. I love the VENTS!!! They woosh you around and they don't tell you where your going so there is always a risk 3. Thanks for fixing the bonus machine questions and the endless mode :) 4. This is not Baldi but I thought it'd be funny mentioning it here. Those Adventure Maker games were better (to me) then your mind is telling you. 5. And finally, don't worry about the update being to small. For one it isn't, but two I am suprised you managed to finish even one structure in that amount of time. Being a rookie game dev myself, I speak from experience when I say, that amount of progress is hard, especially when you are rewriting your code.

2024-12-02 23:15:44 +0000 UTCrad stuff all throughout! really dig the vents, the new level generator seems to be making things much more fun, and the polishing done to everything else went a long way! still got a bit of subjective feedback on everything, but explicit objective bugs were much less common than the first prerelease. schools out: -time limits are a bit too generous, i often finish with several minutes left, so i think cutting them down by a minute or two would be a good balance -im honestly not huge on the overtime song, im assuming its random like the field trip theme but it didnt turn out great in my opinion. maybe you could use schoolhouse escape for the time being? -i think the timer should be visible on the quickmap so you dont have to briefly halt gameplay to check the advanced map (same goes for the detention timer, since it no longer being glued to the screen means you dont know how long is left if you escape early) -itd be awesome if the skybox faded to nighttime or sunset after hours, the playground is pretty jarringly bright compared to the school and also i... just think itd look pretty! -after hours, other student characters should probably either leave or also get sent to detention (although im sure NPCs being sent to detention is a low priority currently so i understand why they stick around) for a bit of logical consistency vents/level generator (i only had time to do 1 playthrough of all 3 floors (seed was 1957706372, and i used explorer mode since im... not great at the game), so anything specific was there): -the tops of superdoors can be seen in vents -i think all other sounds (apart from things like blackout ambience) should be muted since the vents are a fully enclosed space, and to prevent any weird sound propagation hiccups -gravity switchers can be grabbed while in the vents which causes the camera to go absolutely haywire. really funny, but also definitely a bug -found both a storage locker (floor 2) and payphone (floor 3) inside of rooms? not sure if this is an intentional feature with the new generator, but it is definetely not something ive seen before -interactive structures (vents, rotohalls, button-controlled superdoors, storage lockers, and conveyors when they return) should probably have map icons to make it easier to incorporate them into your plans for the floor

For example, if the player beats the first floor in say, 30 seconds, the later floors times should adjust to said time. If the level is smaller or has longer hallways and wider classroom distances, then the time should be lengthened or shortened for balancing. Might be too complicated for such a simple feature, but it would be a welcome change. P.S. please keep the time limit 60 second test option. It adds so much stress in normal gameplay lol
