Devlog #40
Added 2023-02-14 21:05:50 +0000 UTCHello and happy Valentine's Day! We’ve been silent for a long while and I feel really bad about that, but as ShySeel is feeling better, we are now a lot more productive! There are lots of changes on Dekamara and we also want to take your opinion about how you would like us to proceed moving on.
Recently I’ve stopped doing commission work and started working on Kingdom Lost again, on top of a small project that I’ve been working on by myself. But then, things changed and ShySeel suddenly started dumping new assets so I immediately switched to Dekamara, which was mostly ready for the update. I was done with new maps and mechanics so it didn’t take too much time. I’m excited about Kingdom Lost(though there is no reason for anyone else to be excited at the moment I guess) and want to switch back to it as soon as we can, and this is where we want to take our patrons opinion.
As I mentioned before, Dekamara planned as a small project, with nothing more than a couple levels and basic mechanics. If we are going to follow this plan, this is going to be the second to last update.
I still want to follow this plan, which would mean that the next update will conclude with the second part of the pregnancy mechanic, 1-2 new characters, and new maps(the second part of the pregnancy update will be the part that affects the gameplay much more than the current part). This doesn’t necessarily mean that we will never work on it again, it’ll be a side project at most.
Another option is, turning Dekamara into a long term project. Our design for the ‘bigger’ Dekamara is:
- A town where players can:
- Take on quests
- Bring back the captured girls, who will be NPCs like merchants and quest givers
- Learn new moves and upgrade equipment
- New weapons
- New Biomes
- New races(Naga, Centaur, -cute-Zombie, Slime, Fairy etc..)
Which, again, doesn’t sound like a big project, but it’s going to postpone Kingdom Lost in the end. I think that the current scope of Dekamara isn’t enough for a long term project, there is a limit to how much I can keep gameplay fresh and enjoyable in its current state, so if we are going to continue, we need to expand its scope.
(Shyseel here) I personally really enjoyed working on Dekamara so far and as much as I love Kingdom Lost, I would also love to work more on Dekamara. The world is very lively and I love drawing new female npcs for the different features we decide to add.The animations are fun to draw!
If I do end up returning to Kingdom Lost, there will be a lot of redoing tiles and animations. We started this project years ago and it makes me happy to see the changes with every update. Regardless of which game, my top priority is working on the most promising title.
To those who don't know about our open world rpg project, it’s right here. I’d like non-KL players to give it a try! As for our loyal KL followers, please check out this new title Dekamara before making your final decision. :>
With that said, we’d like to hear your opinions on how you would like us to continue; should we finish the game with one last update and switch to Kingdom Lost? Or should we keep working on Dekamara and see where it leads?
