Also, the centipedes do not manifest from Ellie, neither do the maggots. So they are not an extension of her physiology, no. They follow her in small groups and grow more numerous and visible when they sense a kill may take place. They often are misdirected by high emotions as well, as seen in Airbnb and the original sketches for TCO.
