This is such a delightful analysis. I love sharing the sparing little drawings and sketches of the two with y'all because I'm going to come back around to their encounters after this saga of Ellie and Eli comics. It's a nice small thing to revisit in between. Vivian has a special kind of defiance, fearlessness, and curiosity that I think makes Ellie the perfect project for her, and as obnoxious the eventual prodding, questioning, and sloppiness becomes, I believe Ellie finds her refreshing to keep around as well. Like a cat tolerating an (enormous) toddler, haha. The course of their dynamic is going to be nothing but chaos but at its core a very peculiar friendship.

Like the first time that we get to see them interact is Ellie as this mysterious performer who turns Viv into a puddle with a smoldering look, and now Viv is this unflappable titan slayer who is just mildly confused by this arthropod golden retriever puppy. Idk, it’s hard to describe and likely just non-canon but these vignette/AU-type drawings are often my favorite peeks behind the curtain of media.
