Chapter 2 is Done, But Jodi's Journey Continues

Hey everyone, Chapter 2 is finally wrapped up! We hope you're enjoying it.

The Steam Awards nominations are opening soon. If you've been enjoying TKA and Jodi's story, we'd be super grateful if you'd consider voting for us!

Looking back, developing this chapter wasn't easy. We made a lot of changes to the game's core systems, which slowed us down. The final stretch felt a bit rushed, and squashing all those bugs took longer than expected.

But for our three-person team, we gave it our absolute all. This is our first commercial game, and we've faced huge challenges in design, planning, and development. Unreal Engine is powerful, but it also gave us its fair share of headaches!

We know the game still has room for improvement, and we'll keep polishing it over time.

After pushing out version 0.6.1, I finally got to sleep soundly. When I woke up and saw the blue sky outside my window, I just didn't want to get up.

But Jodi's mission isn't finished yet.

The outline for Chapter 3 is already written. Next, we'll start fleshing it out: refining the wild ideas, tightening the story, and designing the scenes and gameplay.

And of course, that means new characters, weapons, enemies, and puzzles!

Game development is actually a lot of fun. If you ignore the painful parts, what's left is pure joy!😄

For example, here's how we make a cutscene:

1. I write the script.

2. Naux and I discuss and revise it.

3. I sketch simple storyboards.

4. Naux creates a basic animatic in Blender to lock down the shots.

5. We hire actors for motion capture.

6. Naux refines the animations.

7. I put it all together in Unreal Engine—camera work, lighting, VFX, sound, and music.

8. Naux does a final polish on character movements, expressions, and lip-syncing.

A few-minute cutscene can take us ages! Motion capture has been a huge help. Thinking back to Chapter 1, where Naux had to hand-animate everything... that was brutal. Especially that scene where Jodi mutates and tears off the squad leader's arm! It took forever. I wasn't satisfied with some parts and made him redo them, all while rushing him... poor guy! 😅

Okay, that's all for now. I'll share more behind-the-scenes stories about TKA another time!

I love your game! I would love to continue playing your game over and over again. Please continue to create and improve the game. One suggestion I have is a new survival mode, similar to the "Centralized Control Area" but with endless waves of zombies. Each wave would get stronger (more HP and Attack for zombies), and there would be Jodi level bonuses for the player. You could also add the ability to purchase NPCs to help, as well as an evacuation point similar to "Abandoned Hangar" or "Fast Food Restaurant", allowing the player to end the survival at any time between waves. This new survival mode would have the following features: - Endless waves of zombies getting stronger and stronger - NPCs to assist the player - The ability to end the survival by escaping at any time between waves. All these elements are already present in the game. You just need to bring it all together. If you're thinking about new challenges and survival mode, please consider my suggestion.
