Well for a little backstory I imagined, let's just say Lorule was collapsing and the only way to save this world was to merge it with Hyrule. To do so, Zelda had to merge with Hilda. It was not easy for them at the begining but now they are very happy with each other. They even have that little extra to be sure they don't need anyone else to have sex. Talk about loving yourself hehe.
