The Adakite Passage

A cave and passage cut through the volcanic stone between the Rhun Hills and one of the many kettle-like kimberlite lakes scattered about the area. The shores of these lakes are very steep, making them difficult to get to from above. This particular lake, however, is not a natural formation but was once a gate drawing matter from the paraelemental plane of ice - the melt gradually cut a cave into the banks of the lake and this cave was expanded by those eager to access the magic lake itself.

The major expansion of the passage occurred as the gate was being sealed by otherworldly forces. A small piece of pure paraelemental ice was moved from the heart of the lake to a small chamber in a cave 30 feet up the wall of the main cavern, now linked the the cut passages by a stone bridge. This tiny speck accumulates fresh ice on it from the air, and there’s a constant trickle of moisture off it as the outer edge condenses water but the air keeps it from freezing completely.

This is all ancient history though - all that is known to those who have used the passage to get to the lake beyond (where a collapsed bridge towards the middle of the lake, but no such bridge on the far side hints at there once being something greater here) is that there’s a big chunk of ice in that elevated cave that seems to resist melting completely. Some come to explore the ruins in and around the lake, others to descend down the caves deeper to a tributary of the Darkling that runs below here (that was once fed by the magical lake above).
