Update #97 Huffing and puffing

I am wiggling my ears aggressively at you right now. It's how elves say hello. Trust me, Tolkien himself told me so.

Been a pretty shit week, not going to lie. Mostly due to terrible sleep. Pollen maybe? Or being stressed about my uni course? I don't know, but the last two days have been better at least.

Either way, didn't manage to finish scene 12 which I was hoping to do. Being slow at actually making the scene is at least giving me time to think it through at bit more, and hopefully that results in better quality in the end. What? No, I'm not sharing my copium. This is a canister of... uh... hopium. Yeah. That. Totally different.

Come, sit beside me

I've come to the conclusion that studying full-time is a bit too much for me in the long run, the pace of making the game has dropped more than I care for. I'll try half-time in fall and see how it goes. To be fair, the full-time studies last fall were pretty damn easy, so I was doing fine then. But now I've written 25k words into a story since the start of February, while also giving feedback on 20 submissions by coursemates, and working on the game. It's a bit much for my feeble, ADHD-riddled mind.

It's been real nice getting critiqued though. Somehow what I've gotten the most positive feedback on is descriptions. Which I find a bit odd since I haven't gotten any training writing those while working on this game. I thought for sure my dialogue and character work would be what I did best.

Well, turns out that relying on visual cues and body language when showing emotions in a VN dulls the ability to portray them in writing. At least that's my theory. I did mention trying to channel my inner Tolkien a while back in order to write better descriptions, guess I did better than expected. Curiously, I've also found myself with an inexplicable desire to smoke pipe.

What does demon milk taste like? Cinnamon? Chili? The souls of a thousand victims?

I did promise some spicier previews, here's one above, and I'll throw in a Ruru selfie as well down below. I am nothing if not a magnamninonios I can't spell that word. Let me check. Magnanimous? Sheesh. I mean, saying it out loud it does make it seem like it ought to be easy enough to spell, but somewhere along the way my brain just goes haywire.

Bah! Words. Who needs them anyway? Sure, they're good for communicating and excommunicating and unicating in general. But what did they ever do for us, huh? Nothing! I vote for using birds instead. It's not as unconventional as you may think, The Trashmen already made a whole song about it.

... I am so re-using that deep tissue massage joke. Ruru texting it would totally work. Unless I forget it, which is highly likely. If I do indeed forget, feel free to look back at this update and pretend that it made it into the game.

Anyway, that's about all I had for your eyeballs to peruse today. Wait! It still says "Insert fancy greetings here" up top. Gotta fix that first. There! Once again the spirit of Tolkien comes to the rescue.
