Gloria had been waiting for her owner to return from class the whole morning, as usual. She had spent the last 2 weeks figuring a way to escape, but ultimately she just realised it was plain impossible. 

The slow morning hours usually passed while she asked herself why that monster had picked her, why was she having so much fun subjecting her to her wicked games and hoping someone would rescue her.

During the afternoons she usually ended up slaving away at Hillary's whim. She didn't do anything to deserve such fate! She thought of herself a good person, her career was starting to flourish,  and she was going to get married in a few months. But none of these things mattered anymore. She was just a pet. 

Hillary came home particularly joyful that day. She took Gloria from her hamster cage and mockingly asked how her day had gone. "I have to show you something!"  She said with a wicked smile. She deposited her on a coffee table, and proceeded to remove her sandals. With a loud boom, she placed her feet in front of the frightened girl, and, with a wide smile, she asked "Do you recognize it?" while wiggling her toes. Gloria's heart sank. Of course she recognized it. How could she not? It was her bloody engagement ring. The one her rich boyfriend had given her when he had proposed to her. Back when she could call herself a person. 

"What do you think?" Her owner's voice brought her back to reality. "I fished it from your clothes the day i shrunk you, and i was thinking to make some money with it. But i think it looks much better on my toe."

Gloria had felt small since she had been shrunk, but this was the moment she felt truly useless for the first time. 

"I asked you a question, slave. What do you think? Does it suit me?" Feeling her eyes starting to water from the extreme humiliation, Gloria swallowed hard, and turning to her owner, she meekly said "yes, princess".
