just a theory: what if everything worked out suspiciously well this time because Al worked his ass off in the background?

Regulus is the 1st main villain who hasn't directly or indirectly killed Subaru even once. It's because Regulus is a pathetic loser who has never actually worked for anything in his life. If he wasn't a fucking bum and learned how to use his ability efficiently Subaru would have been obliterated multiple times. Skill is just as important as power and Regulus is a total loser. There are far weaker characters who will pose a much greater threat.

If Re:Zero gets a full adaptation you'll see plenty of Al. I recommend all Al fans to read the side story "The Day I Gave Up On Being A Following Star". There's less than 0.1% chance it will ever get adapted but it adds so much character.

Appreciate the shoutout George š
If I were to take note of a theme for this season it would be: Don't underestimate the underdogs.
For example Regulus was held as the strongest and yet he was one of the first Archbishops to fall. Whereas the Gluttonies, the ones we didn't really see as major threats, turned out to be more dangerous than we thought. Even Capella lived, the most sadistic one of them all.
The discussion as always was very fascinating. Yeeah, Al is one sus mf. The fact that only now he's being shown more, makes me hope this is just the beginning of his involvement in the story.
Hopefully he's in Season 4, but judging from all the promotion posters and the trailer, probably not.
The mysteries just keep coming. Re:Zero just keeps on giving. See y'all for Season 4 š„³

One thing to note is that Re:Zero is massive. In its current state the equivalent number of english words in just the main story is *eight* times the length of the lord of the rings trilogy and itās nowhere close to finishing. The author took over a year mapping out most main events of the story before he even started writing so thereās still a definitive end in sight.
Re:Zero didnāt peak in season 1 thereās still so much cool stuff coming, including actual answers believe it or not. Hopefully the anime adaptation will do it justice.

Thanks for these reactions btw. Itās been a pleasure listening to your unfiltered discussions. Most reactors either sugarcoat their thoughts or if they talk shit itās usually because they didnāt pay attention. I feel like you two strike a good balance when analyzing the story from a meta perspective. Also the thoughts are different enough between the two of you so it stops you from going into nonsensical ramble loops (usually :D). I hope to see you doing this for years to come and Iām especially pumped to see your coverage of arc 6 (season 4) aka the ātotally objective peak of storytellingā lol. Alright, enough glazing.

Let me clear something up about gluttony which you should understand at this point. The ones youāve seen up until now are called Rai āgourmetā Batenkaitos and Roi āfoul feedingā Alphard. The blond one from this episode is Rui āsatiationā Arneb.
Now some cool trivia about the names. These last names map to stars like all archbishops. Baten Kaitos from the Cetus constellation aka the whale. Alphard from the hydra constellation (like a serpent). And Arneb from the Hare constellation. So the gluttony teiplets are a parallel to the three great mabeasts. A cool bit of foreshadowing for there being three IMO.

The ending feeling abrupt is totally valid. Season 3 and 4 are a shared production and they were only split because of production issues. They didnāt even conclude the arc. But donāt worry, season 4 is coming soon and the next arc has the most lore out of all arcs so far in the anime!

Regulus downfall is basically summed up by Subaru's comment, to paraphrase
"You got counterattacked by an enemy you took too lightly"
Regulus power is basically top 5 in the series but dude is crippled by his shitty personality
Any other archbishop just kills Subaru at least once, hell wrath killed him like 4 times this season? And Subaru never figured her out

I honestly can't wrap my mind around Graham's logic here. I feel like EVERY Arcbishop so far has been a puzzle, it's been that way from the start. It just so happened Regulus' 'puzzle' was something he were knowledgeable of. Regulus' kingdom, the condtions and several instances of Gluttony, Petelguse both having Unseen Hands and being a body-hoping spirit, ect... I can't see how Subaru surviving Regulus here should make any future 'puzzle' trifling, regardless of how one might think he shouldn't of survived.
Regardless, this has been a fun journey. I've never subscribed to a patreon before, so this was a first, but I saw your reactions apear on my YT home page, as well as the length of your discussion, and figured it felt right. Looking forward to whatever comes next!

I don't know how much of the Astrea stuff you guys caught on but the way that family left after Theresia being cut down by Reinhard was even worse than before. Wilhelm is treating Reinhard with even more cold distance (calling him Sword Saint Reinhard to create distance) and Heinkel is even more confused of everything. It should be noted that Heinkel's wife isn't dead, but inflicted with Sleeping Beauty Disease. Reinhard himself is now depressed even more and is forcing himself to become less of a person and more of just a sword, a weapon to be used after his talk with Wilhelm. It should also be noted that Heinkel didn't start blaming Reinhard for killing Theresia back then (according to the author, he wished for the divine protection of the Sword Saint in that moment) until Wilhelm blamed him. I think the big issue that Wilhelm had here when Reinhard cut her down was that he felt no remorse, no emotion seemingly. He did it so matter of fact that Wilhelm sees him as inhuman. It's sad and now the Astrea family is more fractured than ever.

Loved watching you guys. I greatly appreciate that you guys arenāt afraid to voice your problems, even if I donāt agree most of the time.
My understanding with Emiliaās spirit uncovering Regulusā heart in Sylphie is that it did that on its own because it sensed something was off, not that she magically knew to send the spirit through. So hopefully that helps you understand that part.
Iāll also say that I agree with George about Regulus and Subaru. To me, this was the proving ground for Subaru, to see whether heās grown enough to not need to use RBD to solve problems. To be honest, I feel that Regulus was the best case scenario for Subaru to run into, because itās the only one that would rely a lot on his strategizing while also being one that wouldnāt outright kill him immediately. Regulus basically needs to prove to himself that heās in the right before he kills, and so Subaru being the type that never gives up means that Regulus will just continue yapping while never finishing him off. Also, as another commenter said, regulus is tremendously unskilled, which also plays into it as even if he does want to kill Subaru, his aim just sucks (see when he threw debris at Emilia immediately after his heart in her was crushed, he completely whiffed). I think Regulus could have been defeated without Reinhard given a few Subaru resets, but I donāt think he couldāve been defeated without Subaru even with Reinhard there.
Iām glad you guys enjoyed it, and Iām looking forward to bunny girl

I actually like that Subaru didn't use RBD with Regulus. It's ironic because Regulus was talking crap about how Petelgeuse was lazy and couldn't achieve anything, yet Petelgeuse WON against Subaru multiple times. Regulus could have done the same thing but he's full of himself and only really took Reinhard seriously. That caused him to be the slothful one, instead of Subaru or Petelgeuse.

I donāt agree that regulus not killing Subaru means the other bishops have no shot. Even if regulus has the most destructive power of the archbishops, he was clearly the least skilled. His entire attack plan has always been standing still and throwing whatever was nearby. He stops mid combat to hear his own voice. In terms of pure skill regulus is worse than Subaru. If you left Subaru alone to stall any of the other bishops in this arc, he would have been soft locked. Not because the other bishops are more powerful than regulus, but because they all have an iq over 80

That was a ride, thank you for the work of editing those long episodes and generating good discussions.
I somewhat agree with your takes and I also didn't like the way the fight against Regulus was handled, but I get George's take and yeah, at least it gave us a sense of unknown(?) for future seasons. People been saying that season 4 will cover the most beloved arc of the LN so high expectations I guess.
Also, I think I'm the only one who prefers season 2 over every other and season 3 for me was the least enjoyable one, not that it was bad, but as you guys said some of the resolutions felt kinda underwhelming, especially in the second part (EP.8 onwards) at least in the adaptation.

I think there is so much going on in the background of this season that will come up later.
Something is going on with Anastasia. Something is going on with Al. Capella had a hidden agenda.

As always , great reaction !
Re zero is for me the best Isekai and best story telling (in the genre) but i totally understand your griefs with the story and i'm glad you guys were able to enjoy it despite everything :). My Opinion comes also from the fact that i had multiple rewatch both by myself and through reactors and the fact that i watched/read side content and lore so i could better appreciate and understand the nuances and subtilities which made me love this story and world building so much.
The problem of the re:zero anime is twofold: the original story is extremely dense so there has to have cuts when you convert to anime format and each seasons is plagued by production issues ...
There's also the fact that Re:zero is littered with side content and separate lore( an estimatation of around 150 pieces of side content, not all relevant but still...) that come to be important in the main line story and because of that , understanding or deduction can be tedious. That's the reason i always encourage people to at least watch a few videos on the subject if they can't directly read the content , but i also understand that from the POV of a Creator it's simply not sustainable because of other series and schedule. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that you can at least watch a few of those videos in the live stream or in another format but i understand if you don't and will keep of course cheer you guys up!
You really are a rare breed of reactors and i have been delighted to follow all your content even outside RZ :D
Still disapointed that you forgot that:
1) "Roy" is the name of the Gluttony fighting Juli and Ricardo (we know now there are 3 : Lye Batenkaitos that fought against Betty, Otto and co ; Rui Arneb the newest addition that came to save him ; and Roy Alphard , the one fighting Juli and Ricardo , all 3 named after *you guessed it* stars from Earth)
2) Sword Demon is the nickname of Wilhelm :p
Keep up the good work and i can't wait to see what you guys will think of Bunny Girl Sempai :D

In a tweet, the author confirmed that Reinhard requested the Sword Saint divine blessing which is why they blame Reinhard. We've already seen him request and receive divine blessings before.

In case you don't know season 4 is going to release sometime next year as it's confirmed for 2026 as it was originally going to be part of season3 but production issues happened so they had to split it up and season 4 will have 22 episodes
