NARRATED: Antique Vertical Steam Engine [Restoration]

My first steam-powered tool restoration!

It surely affected the stock of old tooling in many ways. My local maker space has a couple of horizontal milling machines (needing restoration) that were built during WWII, probably for shipbuilding. We're pretty sure they were part of separate orders of nearly 100 identical machines each.

Thank you Eric. Your wit and perseverance prevails as usual.

Your "walk to the sandblaster" sequence was the catalyst to make me become a patron. I couldn't stop laughing, love your videos friend!

Hey. If there are any UK Patreons reading this then please check out this museum when it opens after pandemic. It's choca block full of engines likes this 1h.p. and many following the genus up to a Bentley engine delivering 100's h.p. http://www.enginemuseum.org/index.html Enjoy

Andrew Egerton

Me too.

Marc McKenzie

I already do this because I have old-tool disease.

Hand Tool Rescue

This think has AT LEAST 4 shafts.

Hand Tool Rescue

Haha, thank you! The war killed more than just people.

Hand Tool Rescue

Message me on instagram next time to do some machining! Would be fun!

I feel like I should go to any local museum I can find and take pictures of any mechanical/hand tool I can find now. I'm in the north east US, a Lot of old stuff still exists around here...

Clifton Ballad

Please share the rules you've come up with, I wanna play LoL

I picked the wrong video to take 'shaft' in my Hand Tool Rescue drinking game!

Sometimes I imagine I am watching a cartoon while you dismantle objects! All the large and little parts are so foreign to my naive mind’s eye, I think they cannot be real!

Janet Dupree

Eric, great video! I loved “The 300” segue to the sandblaster. In the next video, I see you doing an Errol Flynn entrance on a rope 😜 I don’t know why this hasn’t occurred to me before, but I wonder how many tools of all sizes disappeared during WW-II, when there were constant civilian drives to collect rubber and metal for the war effort. When you look at it that way, it’s amazing to find pieces like this 1 hp steam engine at all. Your contribution is well beyond entertainment - you’re making an impact on preservation of history. We’d be curious to know if you have any ideas how this piece was used. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇸🇨🇦

I feel rooked! I feel crooked! Not a 2 parter! In seriousness, this is an AWESOME looking machine. I realize you've probably had the parts made already (I even saw the Keith Rucker video already), but I would have loved to take part in a team-parts-remake for this. Not a youtuber, just a guy with a nice big lathe/mill/etc, but it would sound like fun!

Cool vid 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👋🏻

Dwayne Garrison
