2021-12-27 09:53:35 +0000 UTCJust wanted to give you an update. Goof off, actually seems to work on the japanning stanley uses. I just sprayed some on and went to wipe it around, and it seemed to start working pretty fast. The only draw back is it evaporates fast, so I would just use a wire brush, and keep applying if you give it a shot. Edit: the best option, if possible would be to soak it in a large container with a lid. To keep the evaporation down. If at all possible.

While I was out though I happened to take a look at a bottle of Goof off. It said it removes asphalt, and tar. So I picked some up, hoping it might actually work for japanning. Have you ever tried that stuff on japanning?
