DEATH NOTE Episode 29 (Early Uncut Access)

Episode 29 | Father

Comments

I feel so bad for Light’s Dad He wanted to give Mello every possible chance to give up before killing him, he was altruistic and moral, the antithesis to his son. Also, the girl at the start is Sayu, she ended up traumatized. Light ruined his family fr

in my opinion, that face he has at the end is him completely letting go of “Light Yagami” as a true identity. Now that his father is dead, there is nothing left of Light Yagami. It’s just an alias; all that is left is Kira

Well to think of it - eye deal halfs the remaining lifespan - and given his father have died like a day (maybe a couple of days) after the deal, it looks like he'd die soon enough anyways P.S he'd had to kill the person who makes the deal in 13 days anyways, otherwise he'd kinda revealed that the rule is fake, meaning that he can become a suspect again

I think part of it is definitely supposed to showcase their lack of intellect, but part of it is an established reoccurring moral standpoint that it would be wrong to test it out. That's what set L apart. He was going to test it out and everyone else was against it. It's also why near and Mello are interesting in the aspect that they embody pieces of L, and they equal him when they come together. Mello is emotional and will toe any moral line to gain victory, and he of course used the notebook. Near, is emotionless, strives for moral victories and said he wouldnt use the death note.

The biggest victims of Lights Death Note journey are, without *any* question the members of his family and this obviously is the episode right here to showcase this. That's why even though throughout the show Light had way more luck and wasn't nearly as intelligent or capable as L you could still call it good storytelling. It's why, despite all the flaws I mentioned through the last episodes I still like Death Note. Because, at the end of the day...all the "luck" Light had in his fight against L with his biggest joker being cheat code death god Rem actually isn't luck. It's misfortune and it's the type of misfortune Ryuk was talking about during the first episodes. But honestly, I could not mention any of that during the previous episodes due to spoiler reasons, obviously. Sure, he "won" against L...arguable...he objectively won because he was about to lose, sooooo he didn't really win, but ok...anyway, he won against L, but at the end of the day this "win" is a loss for himself, his humanity, his connections and...well, misfortune for his family. On that regard it could be argued that Light being insanely lucky instead of intelligent is deliberate writing to showcase how misfortunate Death Note users are. As a story, it's fantastic. But the anime presents the fight between L and and Light as a fight between equals. But they never were on the same playing field and Light only won due to the misfortune the Death Note brought him. He is the unluckiest guy in the universe. That's why he won against L. Because...with the Death Note...luck turns into misfortune. If he didn't win it would've spared his family a lot of suffering. Lastly, his father made the deal because he felt guilty for Sayu. It's what that beginning scene was about.

It's mind boggling that even after L's death the task force didn't even consider trying out the 13 day rule during FOUR YEARS. Calling them idiots would be an understatement, but hey...at least the show does a good job at showcasing their incompetence during the second part.

Lighto San

That "idiot," he says to his father at the end, speaks VOLUMES . I did not hear that as "I'm your son, and you're leaving me alone." I heard that as "you could've just written his name, you idiot." And they could both equally justify the desperate scream. The double meaning goes hard.

Levy Costa

I think Kira would have killed his dad eventually. Because if he wrote the name he’d have to write again or die in 13 days. And if he doesn’t die that’ll show there were fake rules.

poor Sayu she didnt deserve that :P Sidoh is once again a bit of a different kind of shinigami, he seems like a silly guy :D and he has a sweet tooth xD he kinda cucked Light here by spilling the beans about the rules :P thats some insane development, what a plan Light has conjured, never would have expected to see his dad with the Shinigami eyes, this was really exciting :D its a real shame he had to die in the end, but at least he died in peace I guess :P this was definitely the most action packed episode :)
