Nami didn't want him to know what was going on so he didn't pry. He waited for her to ask for help before getting involved in something that wasn't his business and had already decided that she was a good person, so he didn't need to know her backstory. My GOAT A lot of people interpret Nami stabbing her arm as her trying to cut off her tattoo. I personally think she was just so enraged and had nothing to take her anger out on so she attacked the closest thing that was Arlong's. Maybe she did intend to mutilate the symbol as well. One Piece crescendos hit different, and there are plenty more to come :)

Nami's performance is still amazing here. How she screams in her wrath. How her voice cracks when asking for help. Luffy putting his hat on Nami's head. I love Gen. Bellemere is an amazing mother figure. It's all beautiful man.

I'm not even a hardcore One Piece fan, but it ranks up there with the first Super Saiyan, or Naruto powering up with the fox against Haku. Just puts a smile on your face with how badass it is.

There's plenty of great stuff to come but this is a perfect episode for me, closing out the tragic backstory and pivoting into what's about to come. What a way to change gears, and what a perfectly beautiful way to weave a story together Oda has. I love him.

He told Nami to pay up 100 million Berries, in full, but if you think realistically it would have been better for all parties had she made the payments incrementally. It's around this time where we see that Luffy's crew is divided into 2 groups: those that care about people's pasts (Nami, Usopp, Sanji) and those who don't (Luffy and Zoro).

If you aren't in love with it by the time you finish ep 37 then chances are OP is not for you. This was the exact moment that hooked me for the entire adventure and over the years I found a way to describe how you felt in that moment (or at least my interpretation of it). In the moment of overwhelming emotion when Luffy puts hat on her head and marches on Arlong Park simply because his friend asked for help. In that moment you feel as though you are right there next to them marching, you become part of the crew.

U dont get a choice in the matter he is gonna stay there and wait for u to finally accept his friendship and his help. He is never gonna force u to agree or force u to live a way u dont want but deep down he knows there is gonna be a moment when u need him and he is gonna make sure he is there when that moment happens. That is y I love his character so much. It’s simplistic but it’s also complex at the same time.

They want Nami to be able to run away if she ever needed to. This is what Gen-san said. That's why in the end they told Nami to go ahead and run away. Nami on the other hand never planned on abandoning the village. As a little girl she said she never wanted to leave the village to live somewhere else.
