v0.5.5 - Development Update

I figured it would be a good idea to take a brief break from swearing at Unity (well, the node editor I'm using within it) to provide an update.

Release v0.5.1 - Bug Fixes

Release with fixes for the following bugs:

  • (Continue Story) unavailable after save/load (state system bug when deserializing numerical variables)

  • duplicate sets of hands displaying for some suggestions when progressing from 3rd -> 4th scene during same session.

The state system bug may also have affected the prologue scene progression, since there is also counting logic involved there - this release should also fix that.

Member Poll #2 : Language translation support priority

While I'm finishing up scripting the final scene of the epilogue, I thought I'd open a poll to get some feedback regarding language support. It's a fairly simple question - is multi-language support something that people would be interested in? If there's enough support, I could eventually look to potentially provide some form of integration with machine translation systems where possible.

v0.5.0 Development Update #2

Just a quick update - I've made the jump to my new development machine and had some teething issues regarding some of the shaders not behaving as expected. I've put a stop-gap measure in place to handle it for now, however it's meant that the next release will be delayed by about a week. The good news however is that the new machine is considerably faster than my old machine, which should help speed along future releases.

v0.5.0 Development Update

A few updates regarding development progress:

  • I've managed to set-up a system whereby I can record and replay hand mocap data using my Oculus headset and hands (and foot for controlling start/stop recording), and then using a simple anchor I can simulate the interaction of objects in the scene with no additional configuration required. The current hand animations are quite clunky and unnatural, however with future releases I'll be fazing them out to use the new system.

Release v0.4.0 - Yui 3rd Scene

The 3rd scene for the Yui route is now available. There's the odd grammatical error and model clipping here or there but it should be good enough for now (or at least until I find a more suitable way of animating loose clothing). The skin texture for Yui has been somewhat improved, and I'm also going to start looking at accessorizing many of the characters now that I have vertex mapping working correctly.

Greetings all,

I have a release almost ready, and I'm currently backporting some character modifications and game mechanics from a new scene into the school scene prior to testing. Once the testing is done the release shall arrive, sometime in the next 2-3 days.

Release v0.3.0 - Yui 2nd Scene

The 2nd scene for the Yui route is finally available! Since I was implementing vertex tracking for blend shapes while working on the scene (as well as doing IRL work for crazy long hours all month), it's taken a little longer than I'd have liked to get the release out. There is one more feature implementation outstanding for additional material overlays, which will be used extensively in the next scene... :)

Release v0.2.0 - Yui Start

I'm starting off with Yui, simply because I already had some of the induction material ready. I intend to open a poll at some point for the next character, however that won't be until towards the end of the Yui route.

The route can be started by selecting Yui from the available options within the club room at the end of the prologue. In addition to this the scene now has baked lighting, and I've lowered the AA, so it should run a bit quicker on older hardware without any noticeable diff...

Release v0.1.0 - Prologue

The first release is finally here!

It's a little rough around the edges, but hopefully I'll look to smooth those out over time.

A few things I feel should mention:

- I've locked the resolution to 1280x800 (16:10) for now, since I still need to test the occlusion at higher resolutions. I'll provide an option for selecting supported resolutions in a later build.

Development Update

It's been a pretty stressful couple of weeks, however I'm about 95% done with the school environment, with just one more key room left to complete. After that's complete, I'll be focusing on scripting the actual prologue content, alongside updating the UI.

Interaction Video

So I got around to recording a video of some of the different aspects of the interaction and event systems. Please excuse the occasional missing name or stray interaction point - naturally those won't exist in the final product :P The video quality is far from ideal, however my development rig struggled to record at a decent frame rate while running the game at 60fps, and I really don't have the time at the moment to mess about tweaking settings.

Very Quick Update

I'm currently configuring all of the scenes "interactive zones" ready for making a start on the prologue scripting.

I've noticed a decline of support, and I suspect that's down to a lack of "tangible" updates (images/videos). Please keep in mind that unlike other projects that rely on an existing VN engine/framework, I'm building a VN framework from scratch. Development Update

Just a quick update regarding development progress.

I'm almost finished setting up a baseline for the lighting, and I've started working on building the 3D environment - the school currently has 12 main rooms which I need to flesh out, and I'm still in the process of sourcing assets for them. There are also rooms missing from the current building structure which I'm going to need to add, such as toilets and a staff room.

Quick "hands" video demo

I quickly spliced together some script I'd been using for testing hand positions on the face, and knocked up a quick "time stop" trigger with a finger snap :) The finger snap occurs after the text prompt, following a further mouse click, which (in this example at least) would allow the player to control when the trigger takes affect. Prototype Character Designs Completed

Phew!

Design prototypes of the main characters have been completed, and I've almost finished integrating them into the game framework. I've streamlined much of the process so it generally only takes about 10 minutes per model, but since some of the models vary in dimensions and materials, I'm taking a bit more time to ensure that there aren't any weird quirks in how they display.
