I also think that Usopp's little flashback and then Merry saying that his lie also contains his wish is one of the most underrated moments of early One Piece

They didn't animate it in the initial anime adaptation of that chapter, episode 4, because they didn't want kids to copy the scenario. However they will animate that scene in it's entirety in a later episode.

Shanks did the stitching himself

2025-02-28 14:04:05 +0000 UTCThe Gaimon episode is canon, but in the manga Luffy, Zoro and Nami go to the island BEFORE they reach Syrup village and meet Usopp. A very small, but deliberate, detail from the Usopp Pirates disbandment scene, from the time Usopp turns his back to Onion, Carrot and Pepper he is always facing up to try to hold back his tears but alas he couldn't keep them in. Personally, I really liked that Usopp's mom verbalizes that she's proud to have married Yasopp.

I always have love for an unlikely character with flaws/weaknesses/insecurities, who have additional hurdles to overcome just to stand at the starting line each time next to their friends, but they do it anyway for their friends and loved ones.
