I'd argue Flamme was more in the early republican era, call it 200BC, around the end of the Punic wars. After securing the whole Mediterranean, Rome really went into a period of peace and prosperity that allowed it to reach the heights it did when Caesar came along. That's probably similar to Flamme founding the Imperial Mages, which would have led to a lot of stability as they spread magic across the empire. But that's me just seriously nitpicking a really great comment and insightful analysis.

No anime is immune to a tournament arc… it’s a fun cap to the season

Timbeaux

Good lore dump. Thank you :)

Milosz Skowronski

This is a really fun arc. The show really maintains its heart even while allowing us some action and some laughs.

On Frierens Holy emblem - It's a certification from the time of The Legendary Mage Flamme. Flamme was the one who convinced the Emperor of the Unified Empire about 1000 years ago to establish the order of mages. She taught the Imperial Mages of the time. The current Southern and Northern kingdoms are the fractured remnant of the previous Unified Empire. Side Note; The timeline in Frieren is similar to our world - the "present day" with Fern and Stark is kind of like the period of many kingdoms of the "Holy Roman Empire" (962 AD to 1806 AD, with the fashion and Plate armoured soldiers denoting a 15th-17th century timeframe of inspiration), medieval period is following the dissolvement/collapse of the "Roman Empire" (specifically the Roman republic era 509 BC - 27 BC) and Flamme's time is essentially like the time of the Roman Republic with Ceasar - especially considering the clothing styles - and then the oldest time time mentioned, the time of the Goddess being there in their world, (the "age of Myth" or "Mythic Age") is somewhat similar to our real world's Bronze age/Ancient Greece (Specifically ~1500 BC) or even as far back as Ancient Mesopotamia... Frieren got the holy symbol while she was helping Flamme establish the order as she was Flamme's apprentice. even tho it's 1000 years ago, Lernen, Genau, and Sense know about it because it's part of magic history, and This being a rather dark and brutal medieval world setting, with demons and monsters and wars and peasants and nobles... means only a few are highly educated in this way. Hope this sheds a little light on the emblem, and the world's overall deep inspirations, for anyone wondering.

Kanne and Lawine are totally couple coded.

Of what is currently animated (So not speaking of what happens in the manga), this mage exam arc is definitely my favourite! Both the characters (new and old), the growth of certain characters and the conclusion to the arc is amazing!

Seal Oppa

this mage exam arc feels so much like harry potter with the stille randomly being so strong i love it

Bambi

I absolutely loooove the first class mage exam arc!!! It’s so much fun, and you get to learn so much about the magic system all whilst deepening our understanding of the characters along the way ☺️

At least based on what we've seen so far, Kraft isn't on the verge of running into Frieren and the gang. He met Übel by Graf Grant's domain. That's where the party left from right before they first met him, and after that it took them till the next winter to get to Äußerst. Unless Kraft took his sweet time going down those mountains and Übel was able to trek through the mountains in the winter and then save a whole lot of time on the rest of the trip by avoiding sidequests, that scene had to've been a flashback. Kraft kept heading south. But hey he could've turned back around in that time too.

Don't think its ever said or noted but I get the vibe that Kanne and Lawine might remind Frieren of Fern and Stark a little - just a fan theory :)

DietPop

Not really, the episodes kinda come in pairs

Mo

Frieren’s liberated expression is always fun.

< =w= >

Klizer

Wouldn't she be left with a cliffhanger either way

Brian

I bet you’ll absolutely love all the upcoming episodes until the end! It’s hard not to binge them. I’m now watching Frieren for the tenth time, this time with you, and I’m enjoying it just as much as the first time. You have my full support if you decide to binge all the episodes!

gusttafa

You should do doubles from now since it will almost always end in a cliffhanger

Mo

Man, the wait for the next episodes for the entire exams are going to be painful...mayhaps a double drop incoming? 👀👀
