Like someone else said, the consensus is that Martin got brain damage during the fight with the guardian I'm going to add a YT link for S6E27 "The Visitor" (the one where Martin was trying to scam those little cuties into building him a new spaceship), there are a few big hints of lore from this miniseries that make sense when you rewatch.
