Bro stop comparing them to EXO for god's sake. If anything SHINee debuted earlier than them, and EXO should be the ones being compared to their seniors. "Everybody" is still regarded as one of the impossible songs to cover live other than the kings themselves. The one time EXO covered it, it wasn't even live. And yes all 5 of the members of are soloists, which has never been attained by any groups.

It was so different there is more acceptance for being a fan than back then. I was a closeted Shawol lol. I used to get weird responses for saying I like a kpop group especially that I am older than them...7 years older than my bias 😰 . There is age discrimination still in kpop, but Idk the older you get the less you care about those judgements.

It was a totally different world back then! I came across Kpop and SHINee way later than you did but from my understanding a lot of people found them from Boys Over Flowers and Stand By Me, one of my friends did as well.

Thank you for chiming in and agreeing with me. I think EXO came at a time when kpop became globally popular and they were the new it boys and given that title. I remember getting into kpop in 2011 when no one around me knew what the genre was here in the US. I got into SHINee quite by accident and because I like foreign films that led me to kdramas that led me Boys Over Flowers that led me to SHINee. It was hard finding information about them in English at that time. I had to search and search before I found them. I heard and went through the kdrama's soundtrack by copying and pasting the titles of the soundtrack for some because of limited translations to find Stand By Me was from Shinee. I pasted it on YouTube to find it was SHINee their track was written in hangul online in the website that sited the tracks when I looked for the soundtrack and I didn't know how to read hangul. I just remember thinking why is it so hard to find who this group was at the time and thinking I will find an all English song by them because Stand By Me had a lot of English words and just hearing everything from them and becoming a fan. Lol

Right the 'vocal kings' is a fan given title anyway, it's not official. Shawols can also claim that and it wouldn't be too far fetched. Not trying to take away from EXO vocals but SuJu vocal line is even better objectively but you don't see these titles thrown at them as often. OT5 SHINee is up there as well without a doubt.

You should watch SHINee in SMtown tokyo 2014 SHINee in the rain in a flood rain performing like nothing when all other artists are were slipping and even falling but SHINee performing as if nothing. The stage had puddles of rain and they weren't phased by it, but at the same time they looked out for each other nothing sure everyone was safe. They have handled safety issues on stage like when minho broke the mic stand in different pieces during Dream Girl in McMcoutMcoutdown and each member moved or threw the pieces away from the stage so flawlessly that they didn't have to rerecord their performance because it was so undetected, you have to slow the video down to see how they got rid of the broken stand. PS not trying to be shady but SHINee are the vocal kings. Shinee debuted before some EXO members that trained alongside SHINee. Suho was a candidate to be a SHINee member but was not ready to debut and Jonghyun vocally trained the vocalists in EXO

I was actually there at SM Town in Paris! It was my first time seeing SHINee irl after already being a fan of them for a few years at that point. It was amazing! I maaaay have got a little emotional lmaaao. 100% worth all the money I spent travelling from London 😭😂

Speaking of One Direction, you MUST watch SHINee's 'Boys Meet U' MV!!! https://youtu.be/ei8E5p1sAQQ The song literally samples What Makes You Beautiful and the video is also similar but more colorful and bright, I swear it's the closest Kpop has ever gotten to anything 1D lmao. I bet Valen especially is going to love it. We don't really talk about it and I don't think SHINee needed to do it but 1D was such a global phenomenon at the time that I guess their Japanese label thought it's a good idea. The b-side 'Sunny Day Hero' released together with Boys Meet U also sort of sounds like a 1D song :D https://youtu.be/vc83OmYZmWM

You watched an old performance of Stand By Me at the SMTown in New York before which was from the same 10/11 SMTown world tour as this Replay in Paris performance. Everybody has got to be one of the most EPIC and physically challenging pieces to perform ever, that's why no one ever dares to cover it. Even if the song is from the time of the dubstep fad only SHINee can pull it off at this level and still bring their flavor to it. It has a lot of interesting and unique formations but above all is that propeller formation you see in the bridge section, I don't think anyone has done something like it in Kpop... Moreover, this song also showcases SHINee vocal prowess as 4 members hit back to back high notes at the end of the song. Rightfully so they won artist of the year award at the 2013 Melon Music Awards - the year when they dominated the industry with Dream Girl, Why So Serious? and Everybody. Most SHINee Japanese songs are original but they often also re-release their Korean title tracks in Japanese. Although the opposite has happened too, a few highly popular Japanese songs like Stranger and Picasso had also been translated to Korean. SHINee concerts in Japan are pretty much always sold-out. And I'll echo what Ofra has said about mobile phones. It's not because it's an old concert that no one holds phones but because it's strictly prohibited to film or take photos in concerts in Japan to this day. Some people do it but at their own risk of being thrown out and it's pretty difficult to find good quality fan-cams from Japan as most of them are taken in secret, hiding the phone behind something etc. For the record, it's similar at most other public events there, such as theater, musical theater etc. because they usually release official DVD's of such events which makes a lot of money and thus fan-cams are sort of the 'rips' or 'pirated' versions of the content which may result in less sales.

that exo everybody performance is not live so it wasn’t that it was more so sm promoting exo using shinee

SHINee debuted with a song aimed at the older ladies and it WORKED. From the start they had a lot of older fans...

Ofra Cohen

To this day, no group except for SHINee has ever covered the full song Everybody, both singing and dancing, and no one does the bridge. even EXO, when they covered the song they brought SHINee in to do the bridge for them.

Ofra Cohen

About the phones thing, Japan is actually STILL very strict about their no phones in concerts policy, people still sneak them in, but they have to be VERY discreet, if they're caught they get kicked out.
