Bonus cartoon: Frankenstein and the Wolf Man

For my international readers who may not be familiar with the term, a "meet-cute" is a term for a cute, charming, or amusing first encounter between romantic partners (as in a movie).

As for the original "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man," Bela Lugosi played the Frankenstein monster instead of Boris Karloff. Originally, Lon Chaney Jr. was to play both the Wolf Man and the monster, but the producers decided the make-up demands and schedule wouldn't permit this. So Bela stepped into the role. Preview screenings of "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man" were a disaster. The selected audience reacted with laughter every time Bela Lugosi as the creature, spoke. So they cut his lines. With Lugosi's dialogue scenes cut, he's only on screen for five minutes and 6 seconds, with stunt men and doubles appearing in almost two additional minutes. [SOURCE: IMDB]

Bonus cartoon: Frankenstein and the Wolf Man

Comments

In terms of cinematic universes, I think the Universal Studios monster movies started that; especially with "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein". I like "Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman". Not a stellar movie, but it's enjoyable. I think Bela not talking works (and some of the scenes - like the removing of him from the ice - with the stunt doubles are quite obvious). The scene where more power is going into him and the menacing smile he gives as his eyes open is a chilling moment.

When he said he needed a hand with the produce, I think it got taken too far :)
