AMA — Different body types?

Q.: Are you ever tempted to draw characters for EIAD whose proportions are not so ... idealized?

A.: That’s a fair question! Since the beginning, the women in Evil Inc all fell into a certain idealized body type — very busty, slim wait, long legs, etc. — and the men fell squarely into the typical superhero proportions — bread chest, thick arms, square jaws, and so on.

And very early on, I realized that my visuals were going to get pretty boring if I didn’t add some variety into that mix.

So I added some plus-sized characters like Giant Tess…

...and Cassie Cruz

...and Azuella...

Some older characters like Thea...

...and Commander Heroic (who is also one of the more hirsute characters introduced into the mix)

Some female characters with smaller busts like Wild Weed...

...and the "wingman waitress"

...and Fukumi

...and Miranda Monster-Under-the-Bed

...Princess Alex/Vybe

...and  Knight Walker

I've drawn male characters who were considerably less buff, like the Magician's Apprentice...

...and Quaker...

And I've ramped up the size difference between partners with characters like Tauros, Star Guardian K'Nok and (eventually) Angus the minotaur. As well as scenes like this...

Not enough

I realize there's still a whole world of other body types out there that have been under-represented here. Furthermore, it's pretty obvious that characters built like Miss Match and Wingman get the majority of the attention.

I'm consistently trying to widen my character base. But I have to be thoughtful in my approach. The last thing I want is for my own ignorance to lead to creating something that ends up being insulting. That takes a little time if I'm going to do it right. And I think it's worth doing right.

Bottom line

So, the short answer is: I think I have been trying to add different body types into EiAD. There's way more progress to be made, and I'm actively pushing myself forward in that regard.

Bust line

The only thing you're unlikely to see is a petite character with small breasts.

It's not like I haven't tried. Knight Walker, Wild Weed, Fukimi... they all started out with a much smaller bust. And they all ended up looking too young to appear in an EiAD story. I tried and tried, and it just never looks right to me. And so — based on nothing more than my own discomfort — I always end up bumping up their breast size a little.
