The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Comments

Great watching this movie again, with you. I first saw it in 1975 when I was a teenager with a few other kids. It was one of the most horrifying movies, and a ear where shocking movies were just coming out. The Exorcist, the most terrifying movie ever was already out and that is a movie to this day, I'll never watch again, but this movie was the first real slasher film, so we weren't use to this. They just didn't show too much gore in those days. The meat hook scene was just hard for kids to get over. Even though it wasn't really graphic like todays movies, we didn't need graphic, our imaginations took us there anyway. This originally came out in 74, then a different kind of horror Jaws came out in 75, and Halloween came out in 78 and Friday the 13th in 80 and girls we were own our way with this genre after that. But is was definitely steps and this was the first as far as slasher films in the US was concerned. By the way, this movie, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was to some extent based on the true case and the character Leatherface and the family in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre were inspired by the crimes of Ed Gein. Gein was a real-life serial killer who committed grave robberies, cannibalism, and other horrific acts.

To add to its legend, this movie was originally distributed in theaters by the mafia, Colombo crime family.
