Obviously, this episode was required viewing, not just because of the death of a main cast member. But there are unironically a lot of great moments in this too, easily some of my favorites from season 1. I frankly think this is one of Troi's best episodes from the early seasons. And the funeral (as you noted) was genuinely moving.
Even in the body of the story, I liked a lot of the character moments: Their stunned reactions when Tasha was pronounced dead. Data being forced to point his phaser at his crewmates. And Troi's interaction with Armus.

"I can only laugh." You couldn't help yourself. The look and voice of the black blob are cheesy. The voice acting for the black blob is hilarious. Reminds me of the voice of a villain in a Saturday morning cartoon.
We did get the beautiful message from Tasha at the end. Good to watch S1 episodes. My son who streamed the entire series a couple of years ago said:
"Even though I found season 1 to be relatively bad at times, it helped me appreciate how far the series came over time."

Tasha's death was written to be a meaningless death without purpose. I guess they were upset that she asked to be released from her contract.

To answer your question Ames, the movies take place after the series. There may be a few timelines played with, but the movies came out after the series ended and that’s the important part.
