WHAT A WEEK!

Hey Everyone!

I hope all my U.S. friends are recovering from the Turkey overload this past week! I trust you had a wonderful long weekend. I’m so grateful to have all of you here!

I haven’t watched any of the films lined up this week yet, and other than knowing the genres, all I can say is WHAT A WEEK!

Thursday – Road to Perdition (2002)
I know almost nothing about this film except that it stars Tom Hanks, is directed by Sam Mendes, and is widely considered a neo-noir crime film. I did read that it doesn’t fit the traditional noir mould of the 1940s and 1950s but still incorporates a lot of the classic elements. Don’t worry—I’ll be doing more noir since it’s quickly becoming one of my favourite genres! The poll’s runner-up, Double Indemnity, is a bucket-list movie for me and also on the AFI list so we will watch it asap!

AFI Friday – #84 Easy Rider (1969)
I know nothing about this one either, apart from the motorcycles on the poster! I’m stoked to watch my first Peter Fonda film, see more Dennis Hopper, and of course, Jack Nicholson.

Saturday – Children of Men (2006)
This sci-fi poll winner has been a long time coming—it’s been so close to winning so many times! I love Clive Owen, I love sci-fi, and I saved this one for Saturday because I’m so excited to finally watch it.

🎄❄️Plans for December!❄️🎄
The week before Christmas, I really want to dive into some romance dramas and holiday movies so keep an eye out for those posts for nominations. Then, between Christmas and New Year’s, I’m planning an “Ames Bucket List” week—movies I’ve been dying to watch all year that I haven't got to. I’ll try to get in as many as I can, but no promises on how many! Also, get another W.O.W spin in somewhere! And fingers crossed for more LOTR's!

I have seen SIN CITY! Been a whole thou

I love Road to Perdition, but I’m so mad at myself for not suggesting Frank Millers Sin City for the poll. Either way I look forward to the reaction!

Easy Rider . . . one of the films of the 60's that broke Hollywood. Hollywood had spent decades trying to win the youth market and their efforts in the 60's ran along the line of Beach Blanket Bingo and cheesy Elvis Presley musicals. Then along came Easy Rider, made independently for dimes, and made a gazillion dollars, showing the studio system what young people really wanted to see.

What a letdown from last week. Not one decent movie all week. That's because they're all fantastic. Haven't seen Road to Perdition for a long time. Great that someone is reacting to Easy Rider. Born to be wild, baby.

Children of Men is amazing!

Wade Wallenstein

Man oh man.....I've never seen a reaction to Easy Rider, and I can't believe I'm about to see one! And that's why I love this channel because you get movies that nobody else does!!!! It's not that it's a top favorite of mine but it will be a first, and I'm really looking forward to seeing your take on some of the cast, some of the performances, the look of it, etc etc. And just the difference between the 30s Hollywood light comedy stuff we've been watching to suddenly this crazy late 60s D.I.Y. movie......love the contrast! From LOTR....to Easy Rider! :D. When that became a hit, it was the final nail in the coffin for the old studio system and for about ten years you could get virtually anything greenlit so whether we love it, like it or hate it, find it dated or fresh: we thank you, "Easy Rider"! :D

Oh we’re watching Easy Rider…….Far Out Man!!! 😉 Also Road to Perdition is a well made film, looking forward to revisiting

Hehehehe! I love knowing all these tidbits from you all because learning about your fave movies helps me get to know ur taste and style

Amalia Wolf

Hmm, Easy Rider should be...interesting. Certainly highly influential, but not my cuppa tea--can't wait for Sunrise, though. Ever forward!

VivendoBem

An eerily prescient film. Can't wait for Saturday.

James Rogers

Children of Men is really extraordinary. A spectacular achievement on both a technical and emotional level, and perhaps most remarkable (and chilling) as a film with its finger on the pulse of the immediate future. It flopped at the time but I think it's rapidly emerging as one of the key films of the 21st century.

Henry Graham

Road to perdition slow and boring

As has been pointed out, Paul Newman’s final live-action theatrical film role was in Road to Perdition and, as was his habit, he was excellent. I remember him and Tom Hanks doing an interview at the time, and Newman commenting that he loved the way Sam Mendes directed and edited, having the patience to let the actors act and let scenes play out. I really feel that in this movie. Mendes is great at building tension without rushing the story. He and Daniel Craig also worked together on a couple of Bond films, Skyfall and Spectre.
