2D and 3D Patreons are fusing into one monthly feature

I'm merging my 2D and 3D patreons into one starting the 1st of June.

Instead of per piece pricing model, I'm switching to a monthly rate. The 3D patreon will be closed and the 2D patreon will evolve to cover all creative endeavors: art, animation, interactive pieces, anything the future brings.

3D patreon

The "per post" model for my 3D stuff has been perhaps not the best match for that kind of content. It wasn't very clear what exactly accounts for a post. I originally envisioned it as "an animated piece", but I couldn't say how long it should be, or if it was something wholly different, does that count as a post?

With this change I hope to enable smaller, intermediary steps and creations. If you’re a 3D patron and want to continue supporting 3D creations, you will have to subscribe to my 2D patreon  (which I should probably rename to something else after the change…)

2D patreon

The 2D side has been, in my mind, tremendously successful with the "per post" model. Perhaps even too much so, making me a bit obsessed with numbers and keeping up a steady publishing schedule.

Switching to a monthly model here should result in more flexibility. I can take more time to work on a more complicated piece, or churn out simpler stuff more often. I can open up to stuff like requests and YCH inserts.

What changes, what remains the same

I will try to schedule an update of some form on Fridays, but it might not always be a completed piece. If I spend time on, say, rigging a character, it might be just a note and a screenshot of the progress. Other times I might focus on creating many sketches during a week, so a post might focus on those.

If I know before hand that I’m going to need to put all my focus to other stuff, I may put the Patreon on hold for a while and stop the billing.

Then occasionally I might be too burnt out to really get anything done. That’s an unfortunate possibility, and you may adjust or cancel your patronage if need be.

I’ve discussed about this change on Discord, and I think most have been receptive to the idea.

Tiers

With "per post" model, I requested that everyone set a monthly limit to how many new pieces they could support. Patreon did not have any method of rewarding those who opted to support two, three or even four updates. Switching to a monthly model fixes that.

Here is the current draft for the tiers to come.

1€ - New Patreon posts.

You get access to new Patreon posts as they are published. Artworks are published on Patreon roughly 4 weeks before posted publicly. Some pieces I may choose not to publish outside of Patreon.

2€ - Post archive & access to public Discord channels for chatting.

You will gain access to previously posted Patreon content, as well as access to the public channels of my Discord channel.

3.5€ - Access to Discord channels with work-in-progress and finished works prior to release.

You will gain access to my work-in-progress Discord channels. There I may post sketches and work-in-progress updates. I will also post finished works to these channels before scheduling them for Patreon.

5€ - Channel for submitting requests using my OCs or generic characters.

You will gain access to a special Discord channel, where you may submit requests or suggestions for drawings / animations using either my OCs or generic characters. Submitting does not guarantee the piece will be made.

10€ - Enter characters into 2D YCH pool.

Pool is a Discord channel for collecting characters that I may use if inspiration strikes. Entering does not guarantee that character will be used in future works. Characters may also be used as side cast. You give me full creative control, and I will try to use it respectfully. You agree that I may, for a piece, choose to make one-off edits to the design, or to follow the design very loosely. You may outline criteria to how the character can be used (sfw-nsfw, male-on-male, etc).

First teaser scene

If you've been active on Discord, you may have stumbled upon this little project...

Test run the tutorial/teaser in your desktop browser by following this link! (Be patient for the first load)

I built GC as a platform for running interactive 3D scenarios. Consider this a proof of concept of things to come.

This may be a Patreon exclusive project for a while, because of the hosting expenses. That's also why I would appreciate it if you wouldn't share these links around. If I notice a drastic spike in my hosting bill, I'll need to invest time into a more restricted user access, which just slows things down for everybody.

There's no charge for this first release, but subsequent updates will be charged posts.

Now that the ground work is done, I'll focus on bringing the first client into 3D. :)

What's up and what's cooking

I've began working on some 3D stuff again, and while it's still some ways away, I thought I'd share what's up.

For one, I recently began studying Houdini, and there are some really interesting things there to play with. Initially I'm looking into generating procedural buildings (more on that later) and there are also fun to be had with its physics solver (jiggling & breakage)

Secondly I am updating the bunny girl model. The design had some issues that I hope to change. By the end of it, I hope to have an upgraded bunny model for renders & real-time.

Finally, I'm looking to doing something different for my next project. I want to experiment with something more interactive. Animations where you have some freedom of movement, for example. First one should be really bare, though.

The platform for these will be Unity converted to WebGL & hosted in S3, so they will run in the browser.

Mall (finished)

Here's the one minute "quick animation", rendered out! It did somewhat blow out in size... But I want to thank everyone who kept me company while working on this, and you all for providing the background model to play with!

And here's a little extra for you: same animation but with another character!

So what's next?

Well, I have the audio for another Emma clip but I will tweak the character model a bit before starting on that. I'm not entirely happy with her mouth & teeth, and the fingers could use some work too. Also, with your funding, I'm thinking of leasing Substance Painter to give her proper textures.

I should also continue working on the deer model & see if we can get some 1st perspective micro action going. I'll need to lease the cloth sim software for the Emma clip, so I can use the same license to work on some clothing for him as well! #Frugal

And I really want to make a muscular red panda. Yes.

But yeah, enjoy and take care!

New $3 tier

Hello! Since we're already well over minimum, I added a new $3 tier that is, for now, the same as $6. Please pick the one the one you feel comfortable with! If every one of you switched, I think I'd still have enough wiggle room to work with.

Also, you can set a Patron monthly limit to your pledge, so you have total control over how much you can and want to support. I try to work so there's a clip out once per month, but sometimes I may pick up pace, so set the limit to what makes most sense to you.

Ok! Thanks a bunch!

Let's do something simple for a change

So I was thinking, eh, these new models take quite some time to complete, so why not do something quick and fun with the purple kitty? Load the model, make sure things are still working, and just do some mini growth clip straight to the point?

And since this is patron funded, why not purchase an environment to play in?

This poll is to help me decide which model to buy. I prescreened some that don't cost an arm and that seem like a good base to work off. (all of them will need the materials and lighting reworked to work in Blender)

Male VA & Emma

I got a response from one VA that I thought sounded appropriate for the type of character I'm thinking, and it wasn't "fuck off furry". Promising!

I also thought of a possible short scenario that I might do with Emma if the voice talent is willing! Hint: it involves Beat Saber.

(I'm like super uncomfortable how that thing has blown up my Twitter. My watchers have tripled in 24 hours! You guys have no idea what you've signed up to...)

You're all bonkers

Yes, you! It has been 24 hours and my license cost milestone has practically already been met.

This means I essentially got my "dream" tools all set up. We got

  • Marvelous Designer for cloth modeling and super speedy simulation
  • Substance Painter for texture painting
  • Quad Remesher for working with sculpts in Blender

What's coming next is that I may start working on the poll favored choice around the weekend. I kinda got hooked to voiced clips so I'm scouting for talent to commission.

Essentially sending super awkward queries to unwitting people. Hoo boy.

It's been a wild day.

Emma (full vid)

Here is the finished clip!

I began working on this model around a month ago, and I learned a ton in the process. The clothing, the simulations, the lipsync, all new stuff. Perhaps some day I might even try (gasp) fur!

I think the biggest takeaway for me was that it actually works pretty well if you design the features to be more in tune with the species you're creating.

A big thanks to Penny for providing the voice talent, and Kenny for letting me use the background! And you!

Thank you all for the support!

I was floored to see so many of you over night! What this means is that I can continue using Marvelous Designer for modeling and simulating clothes like in the upcoming Emma clip. I think clothing is a great way to add personality to these things, and I can't wait to see what else we can do with it!

Thanks again!

Next project

So, I'm rendering the final version of Emma, and it's time to think of what to do next. Figured I could give these polls a chance, but the final decision is still mine to make! These more or less require the cloth sim software, so I hope I can get at least 5 pledges before taking them on...

Emma's place

I originally planned to use this small and cozy room I bought and reskinned, but the thing was a bit too small and I couldn't find nice angles for the animation!

(and yes, I did play around with a micro's point of view a few times... it would be a shame to let this room go to waste! :)

So I got the VO files from Penny and got to animating and it quickly became apparent that this would take a while. The VO was 27 seconds long going at a super fast speed and having all these emotions to visualize. I hammered at this on and off for a week.

Attached is also the rig setup for Emma. There are simplified colliders on her arms for the occasional bump, and the cage around her chest is the thing that works the simulation.

Kenny provided a background piece for me to use! Thanks Kenny!

Lip sync test

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1fb6D7hXl0kx4Q4hHzWLAjQQOuSGqe2UY

I started fantasizing about being able to give these models more character with proper voice acting. After browsing Fiverr for an evening, I suddenly recalled @Penny_Underbust had a pretty nice voice. I noticed that she had a proper streaming setup and asked her if she was open for VO commissions. She was immediately game.

I did this lip sync practice run on one of her video uploads to test the waters.

Face rig

Because the long snout, I started thinking that the default face rig that comes with Rigify (blender addon to build rigs) would give the amount of control I wanted. So I decided to make my own rig for educational purposes!

Emma, phase two

At this point I did two things. One was pulling her snout out. Two, I downloaded a trial for Marvelous Designer, which allowed me to try my hand at modeling (and simulating!) clothing proper.

Everything in MD is done as in real life, so you have cloth patterns, you  define the seams, set textures and let the engine do the simulation. Super fun experience! Costs $50 a month! Yikes!
