W.O.W Spin #24 "Crimson Tide" (1995) Watch a long

Dog Day Afternoon was so close

"You're not fit, sir." I agree with the thought you had that moment. Can feel the tension between the Captain and Hunter the entire movie. The movie does go by quick. Glad had a good ending. Denzel Washington does command space as an actor. One of the most endearing [/s] comments by Capt. Frank Ramsey (Gene Hackman) from early in the movie: "Dumb as fenceposts but very intuitive. In that way, they're not too different from high school girls: they may not have a brain in their head but they do know all the boys want to f*ck them." A good quote by Hunter: "In my humble opinion, in the nuclear world, the true enemy is war itself."

i would love too!

Why don't you watch Mississippi Burning if you like Gene Hackman?

ITMacPro

Sure, that's just an opinion, but it's the RIGHT opinion. I think he's the greatest film actor who's ever lived. Not the biggest star, but the greatest actor ever. He's made a ton of great movies and a ton of bad ones, but he's great in all of them.

Just finished the watchalong, thanks Ames and thanks to the winner for choosing this movie. I can’t say it enough. Gene Hackman is my favorite actor ever and that will never change. He’s gangbusters.

There needs to be more movies where legendary actors yell at each other for 2 hours.

Congrats Ron! Thanks Ames this was great! The Russian bad guy who was on the tv was played by Daniel Von Bargen who Seinfeld fans will recognize from season 9 of Seinfeld. He played George Costanza's lazy boss Mr. Kruger. It's weird seeing him play a Russian dictator here. He was also in Malcolm in the Middle as the head of the military academy that Francis went to. Quentin Tarantino rewrote the script of this movie apparently. He doesn't have a writing credit but the Silver Surfer scene is very Tarantino. Possibly the star trek references too, Tarantino likes star trek. He might have been brought in as a script doctor to improve things a bit. Edit: I didn't realize Patrick already mentioned Tarantino. Oh well, but I do think he did the star trek bit too.

I worked with Jake Scott on my first ever commercial it was cool

Director Tony Scott was Ridley Scott’s brother. His film directorial debut was the legendary vampire film The Hunger and then his next film was Top Gun. Pretty awesome.

Catchermag

Pretty damn good Hans Zimmer Score too

Patrick Thompson

Ahhhh Classic Tony Scott, would recognize that frantic, high energy editing anywhere haha! Loved that they brought Tarantino in for those pop culture references (I mean Denzel talking about Silver Surfer 🀣) This is my go too easy to watch action flick. That an Independence Day πŸ˜‚

Patrick Thompson

This movie is awesome. Watched several times.
