W.O.W Spin #14 “Hell or High Water” watch along

YEEEEY!

Hey Guys!

Here is the winner for the WOW spin! I loved this movie - I feel like it paired well after watching NCFOM for some reason?

Spoilers below💥

I am extremely moved by the acting in this. The telling was so good. Everything felt simple to me but everything was extremely powerful and the music choices really hit!

Congrats to the winner! You can add your new pick up on the Google Form!

30s spin = annoying Ames trying to sing 😅

One of the great "modern westerns," you're right Jeff Bridges is perfect in this.

I'm new to the channel and just browsing around...scrolling past the kitty cat images 'cause dunno what they are...and this is just a full watchalong for Hell or High Water? Is there a list somewhere of the secret movie reactions? Maybe I'm just missing how to find these movies.

Love this was a first watch for u

Right, Pine was really good in Outlaw King (what a gamble going for a Scottish accent, but he pulls it off). Agree, should've been a 2 (or 3) part miniseries

TB & Lightfoot is nuts, would make a funny reaction

Congrats Zac! Jeff Bridges, who was always super likable and solid, definitely a good actor, really is getting to show a different side in his older years, cool to see. His work is so detailed in this movie, and completely different from himself. Love it.

Love Alpha Dog, that's a good 21st century nugget! It's like "The River's Edge", did you ever see that one? Both true stories, both have similarities, one's totally 80s, one's totally 2000s/late 90s.

I love this movie, and yeah Ben Foster is such a good actor, he's great in 3:10 to Yuma, another great movie that most people have never watched. I was going to mention Amber Midthunder but you mentioned her at the end, it's cool when an actor makes it big all of a sudden and then you see them in small roles a few years before their big break happened. At 26:46 minutes into the video, your video not the movie, I'm pretty sure that's the film writer Taylor Sheridan. He's the cowboy complaining about being a cowboy in the 21st century. Fun little cameo. The only other film I've seen by this director is Outlaw King which was a netflix production and also starred Chris Pine. That was pretty good, though it felt a little rushed, but worth a watch on your own if you're searching for a movie on netflix in the future.

Ben Foster's so good, you gotta check out Alpha Dog, 3:10 to Yuma, The Mechanic and Lone Survivor

Jeff Bridges is so great! Younger people probably wouldn't believe he was one of the handsomest dudes in movies in the 70s and 80s, so much so that I think his looks kinda blinded people to how truly wonderful an actor he was. It wasn't until he got older and paunchier that I think people caught on to his immense talent. From The Last Picture Show, Thunderbolt & Lightfoot, Cutters Way, Starman and Against All Odds to Fearless, The Big Lebowski, Iron Man, True Grit and this (and a million others)--the guy can do just about anything.

I'll catch this watch through eventually. I remember liking this movie, but not loving it. As you pointed out, it's could be seen as a companion piece for NCFOM so it an interesting stroke of fate that they essentially happened one after the other. In some ways this movie might be viewed as as a (somewhat lesser) sequel to NCFOM, same overall setting and vibe in a more modern time, though the ending of this film is a bit more conventionally straightforward (and "happy") at least for one of the protagonists.

Pretty good, was interesting to see this after hearing so much about it. I liked the scene with Toby and his son and the checkpoint scene the best. Chris Pine inhabited this role really well, very different from his personality in talk shows. I did feel like the dialogue was over-fried in a few spots, esp. the scene with the waitress. Entertaining film (and good crime tips? 😄) Also nice soundtrack.

God this is such an awesome film! Will happily rewatch a the drop of a ten gallon hat! Well done Zac! Glad you liked it Ames!

Good Taylor Sheridan hidden gem, his one offs are all excellent. Foster is great in Yuma, no spoilers but he's not even the best part so def worth watching. Liking western style crime/mystery, I feel like you would enjoy Longmire for a TV show.

Nice! Cool flick

So good!

Glad we agree on Ben foster! I took a look a this IMDb and I had only seen him in “get over it” which is a teen movie with Kirsten Dunst and I don’t even remember him! Same with xmen 3.. but we all gotta start somewhere and he was AMAZING in this so I am excited to see him in more

Amalia Wolf

Congrats Zac!! Can't go wrong with a Taylor Sheridan flick.. Also, I'm a die hard Ben Foster fan who always steals just about every scene he's in....

Good movie. Thanks Zachary for making that your pick for the Wheel.
