One Piece - Halfway Broken (57-61)

So, before anything else, part of why there's an AI generated Yamato image as the picture for this post is because the final relationship poll actually ended at Midnight on December 31st. You can check it out for the exact final totals, but the short version is that Yamato ran away with the vote. 'No additional girl' surprisingly took a distant second, with Hina in third and Perona fourth.
This officially locks the final pairing of this story in as Luffy/Nami/Robin/Vivi/Yamato.
There will be no additional girls added to the main pairing. Side relationships, just like the one between Kuina/Zoro and Kaya/Usopp may still occur. Also, no, I will not write one-night stands for Luffy and the girls to indulge in. I prefer writing healthy relationships, and we're already pushing the boundaries on that by including so many people. This fic is PLOT first, not porn ;-). The lemons are just a nice bonus, not the main point!
Now, having gotten that out of the way...this is a doozy of a release! I'm honestly amazed I got it out as quickly as I did, as I had to watch a significant chunk of the Punk Hazard, Dressrosa, and Wano arcs. No, I didn't watch them from start to finish. I very quickly remembered why I stopped watching One Piece around the time of Dressrosa. The post timeskip content is painful. Even Hallmark and the DBZ animators would both be sickened and appalled at how the stretch out every fight and action to drag in more yen, not to mention filling airtime with long-as-heck recaps. By the time I subjected myself to three arcs worth of content I wanted to claw my own brain out while screaming WHYYYYY?!

Back on point. I put myself through that because I wanted to make sure I got two particular surprise characters right. More, I won't say, but I will say that I'm gleefully anticipating everyone's reactions to the chaos I have unleashed on the poor, unsuspecting timeline. There will be plenty of author's notes in the comments :-p.

As for Yamato, she's been planned to show up before the timeskip for quite some time. Choosing this exact moment was a more recent choice, though it was only marginally made because of the poll results. There aren't that many points left where she could have been introduced, and this one was the best of them as it let me tie a bunch of other planned elements together.

I don’t care either way, I’m just curious. I also love the idea of everyone on the resolve eventually being in a relationship except Sanji. I think that would be so funny.

From what I read it was clear that the wg and there informnads didn't know who the joker was/is but I thought that at least some of the people in the underworld know (also keido as far as I remember) For the water 7 stuff I don't remember reading your comment for that so I will go looking for it and apologize for apparently riding a dead horse But last but not least it is your story and you decide what is canon for it and what is not and I will probably, most likely like your interpretation of what oda gave to us On a completely different note to that stuff Yamato and the human human fruit model nikka you know before you gave that to her I thought you may give that fruit to the ship 😉 Or let Luffy eat it as a second fruit after he mastered his original one as I did though you let that be an option with the hole spirit fruit can be mastered if the fruit was actually really as Important as oda wants to make us believe and you didn't just make a different explanation for what it was actually for😅 Right my new intrusive thoughts communicated and I think I should go somewhere else and stop thinking about your wonderful story

2025-01-09 00:10:23 +0000 UTCOkay, I've watched Dressrosa (recently, in preparation for this set of chapters) and some of that is just...wrong. Doflamingo did take over Dressrose, but it certainly wasn't with the endorsement of the WG. They hated and loathed him, but he was blackmailing them with critical knowledge he had as a former World Nobel. Frankly, so long as their secrets don't get out, the WG will dance a jig on his grave and possibly shake Luffy's hand for killing him (right before trying to slap cuffs on him, but still). Also, it was Doflamingo that killed his father and brother, not the WG. His father, Donquixote Homing, willingly withdrew from the novels after realizing how evil they were and took his sons with him. Doflamingo hated him for that and killed him for it. Dressrosa will undoubtedly see some chaos...but not as much as you seem to think. Doflamingo wasn't really directly involved with managing it. He left keeping it under control mostly to Sugar and his other minions, as far as I can tell. They are still there, though they are likely to face revolt much sooner with Doflamingo keeping them in power with raw strength. Remember the toys and Dwarves were working on a revolt for so time before the Strawhats arrived. That will likely happen faster now...assuming the rest of Doflamingo's subordinates don't just go to someone like Kaidou for influence. Dressrosa actually still has a royally family. One of whom is a Donquixote Pirate (Viola is Violet). Frankly, one of the likely results of his death is that she might take over. Either via revolt or as a mouthpiece for the pirates. Rebecca is also still around, of course, though not in a position to take over. No one in the underworld actually knew who Joker was. That was the point in him using the name Joker. Which means one of his subordinates can easily replaced him in the underground. I've addressed the Water 7 thing repeatedly, often, on multiple platforms, so I'm not repeated it again -_-. No, the WG isn't getting pluton or its plans.

So, yes, they are in a weaker position than canon. On the other hand, Luffy isn't likely to assail Impel Down, which added to their problems in canon. 2025-01-08 14:41:27 +0000 UTCRight I will try to clarify a bit (don't think I manage but I try) For the hole dressrosa ark and there backstory So donflamingo did in dressrosa what crocodile tried in alabasta vilifying the king and taking over he managed that and later dissidents with his subordinate suger she has a devil fruit that transforms people into toys and makes everyone else forget that that person even existed He was able to take over with the endorsement of the wg because he was born a celestial dragon and knows things they don't want to get out it's also one of the reasons he became a warlord alt easier. He has CP0 agents on dressrosa that are helping/interfering on his behalf So as we know how evil the wg is at that at least his father was killed by his fellow celestial dragons he must have leverage that would be really problematic if it got out and it would even go out if the wg assassinated him (as he is not dumb and would make it so and make sure the wg would know that that would happen) now the thing is we have an idea what that actual info is or was it is mentioned as The celestial dragons national treasure (could the weapon Uranus or something else) but he was ordered by the wg to go somewhere and somehow died there will kuma apparently returned alright so it is likely that whoever he arranged the info to go out with would likely think the wg assassinated him regardless and thought he was bluffing or something So it is likely that this info would now be released to make trouble for the wg as it it unclear who did him in and the wg is likely to have done it So we now have dressrosa that has no king and is still in the hands of his crew while all the people that were toys are still Toys so his crew is still lauded as heros there So we will have chaos and consequences there Next is donflamingos underground network as he was one if not the biggest underground broker the human auction house in sabody is one of his establishments His death will make the underworld go up in chaos for a time as well at least for a time Also what I just thought of in consequences is the warlord system we just have three warlords now as crocodile,moria,doffy are dead and jimbay would revolt so that leaves kuma , Hawkeye and Hancock which would also be a bad showing at the war with whitbeard as officially there where 6 warlords at the war of the best in canon well Blackbeard slipped away but moria was alive and fought for the wg as did doffy (even if mora was killed there by doffy on wg order) which is not a got look for the wg An other thing I just remembered is the problem with water 7 and the plans for pluton the actual f**g plans to build that ancient weapon and the likely hood that it could get into the hands of the wg with Luffy and them not going there I do hope my word salad was more coherent and understandable Most of this info that I base my thoughts of is in his wiki page if you want the check for your self

2025-01-08 13:44:40 +0000 UTCI'm glad you enjoyed the chapters :-). You pretty much hit the nail on the head with the Doflamingo fight. If Luffy had been alone, the best he could have managed was a draw. Driving the Warlord off but not able to finish him. Even that would have been a bit dicey, as Doflamingo is legitimately something of a combat monster. What tipped the scales was the presence of Yamato. Adding her into the fight turned what should have been a very rough draw, into a losing proposition for Doflamingo. Something he was smart enough to recognize and try to disengage from. Pity for him that the most unlikely of foes stopped him from running. Kaya would absolutely be out of her class in a straight fight, but she's GOOD at manipulating Haki and Spirit Energy and effectively used his Observation against him by hiding in an inverted shield of Haki. That let her get a single strike in which pinned him in place for just a few seconds too long... Garp is seriously pissed...but he's also Garp. Once he beats the snot out of them a bit, he's just likely to break out rice crackers and aggressive annoy them all with them for a week in more petty revenge. With Luffy not actually having been hurt in any way, and honestly causing headaches for the WG as a result of their stupidity, Garp's not likely to take it too far. Beat them until they feel it for a few weeks, yes. Escalate farther than that, no. Not unless Luffy is legitimately threatened. Which he currently isn't.

2025-01-08 12:32:52 +0000 UTCPerona is a bit of an oddity. If you only look at her primary appearance in the Thriller Bark arc, you're right. The longer you look at her, the more that looks a bit off, though. Moria apparently picked her up as an actual child, and he legitimately raised her. She also tries to help Zoro, despite him having been an enemy, and cries over Moria's supposed death when she hears about it. To be honest, I get the impression she's more 'spoiled Tsundere' than anything. That said, if she sticks around she'll get a bit of an overhaul. Reasonably so as she's just lost her father figure and gotten a reality check as a result. She'll likely still be a brat, but a brat who genuinely wants to make something of herself. Also, she's a character where one or another of the others might easily decide to take a 'firm hand' with her due to that bratiness. ;-). Nojiko or Hina, possibly.

2025-01-08 11:26:38 +0000 UTCRight I was fast to notice this today so my thoughts for this wonderful continuation First yes cat-girls I did comment that kaya could probably make those out of those poor people last time and it happened which is wonderful Second donflamingo sooo this is a dozie he is was now I guess the king of dressrosa and because sugar is still a thing all those people there are still Toys so how that Island will get by I have no idea now to the important bit donflamingo is a "disgraced" world nobel he knew a lot of secrets the world government didn't want to get off out and he presumably had dead drops/Deadman switches or something so they didn't just assassinate him he also had some protection in the form of cp0 agents on dressrosa so I am not sure how this will go Next Yamato and Brook for the crew yeahs good for them (I don't dislike either and actually like Yamato but she is everywhere and I'm still salty that she won the pool) More importantly perona should be on the crew she (should have been the love interest but there are to many Yamato simps but I digress so salty) reasons for perona -first her devil fruit is very versatile and good at croud control - she can effect emotion with her negative hollow so she could conceivably do other emotions and we could use that (a knockoff psychologist) - she can leave her body like Brook can which means there is crossover research to be gained - as I have commented somewhere before perona could make a good love interest/partner for hina also a good fighting partner as perona can negative hollow the enemies and hina locks them down with her fruit -i had more I just forgot while writing So perona for the crew And of course happy writing and I would like more please 🥺

Blackbeard and Moria dying is one thing but Doflamingo too? I’ll be honest, my heart was in my throat when I read Robin’s warning to everyone. Despite how powerful your Luffy had become, I wasn’t sure if he’d be able to beat or kill Doffy at this point. Even if this is his pre-time skip form, Doflamingo is still a scary ass, unhinged motherfucker who’s managed to turn his Devil Fruit into a sadistic weapon. And said Devil Fruit is STRINGS! With Yamato, a respectable powerhouse herself, joining the fray however and with a new Devil Fruit to boot? King and Queen of Strawhats beats Creepy Joker in a game of cards ye bastard! HA! …or maybe Jack of Strawhats in Luffy’s case? Anyway! King Cobra! Alabasta! So damn good to see them doing well! If the WG does lean on them, I don’t doubt that the Crew will help out. Not only due to Vivi but also cause they’re actually Allie’s with her home country. And speaking of the WG… *CACKLES* Oh, Grandpa Garp is back you stupid sons of bitches and he is PISSED! By the sounds of it, SOMEONE or several is going to die this night before he’s satisifed! His Fists of love are now WROTH with FURY!!! MWHAHAHAHAHA-! *Clears Throat* Moving on. Robin… You did something good and ended something atrocious dear girl. Bask in it. Also, I’m so happy that Robin and Vivi are finally moving past what’s happened between them. To add on to your tidbits about healthy relationships Novus, any relationship, romantic or platonic, will only work if both sides are “trying” to make it work. Which is why it’s so warming and heartening to see both Robin and Vivi taking this step together in their relationship. …Maybe Robin can show more of her “sincerity” to the Princess when the both of them eventually join Luffy and Nami’s relationship. Only time will tell… Awesome job Novus! Can’t wait to read more!

2025-01-08 10:17:51 +0000 UTCA good tip for making it through those arcs is to download the show from “One Pace” it’s a fan edited/ curated collection of the episodes where it cuts out all that extra shit, the animators also mostly stopped being so egregious with the episode stretching from whole cake till now, but One Pace definitely helps get through those tough seasons.

2025-01-08 09:56:40 +0000 UTC'Skimming' would be more accurate, to be honest. I bounced forward past a lot of bits I didn't need to know or care about. Still took several days, though. Unfortunately, the anime is what I'm familiar with, as I've never read any of the manga. The anime up through Sabaody is actually quite solid and decently paced. It was only after the timeskip that is sort of exploded into something that looked like a DBZ writer and animator took LSD while riding the world's most epic caffeine high. Making it nearly unwatchable after a few post-timeskip arcs, at least for me.

I'm sort of indifferent to him, like Luffy in this fic is. He'll be sticking around, but events will shift with him a bit. As for Perona...that will be subject to a poll, I think. You can see, now, how I would have included her for the pairing if she'd gotten a following. But without that angle I'm honestly not sure if I should keep her around or not. I'm starting to hit the saturation point where there are too many characters to give full screen time to. On the other hand, the only other character I'm still really intending them to pick up is Jinbe. There's ONE other from a New World arc I'd consider, but that's not really the point. The point is that, since I'm not planning to add many more, I can probably handle Perona being added. We'll see what people think about her ending up as possible crew... A/N 2: Yeah, we all know it's totally believable that Shanks would just flat forget he had the Gomu Gomu no Mi in storage... A/N 3: Luffy is correct that the massive spiraling changes have officially rendered most of his remaining knowledge obsolete. He has a few bits and pieces tucked away that are still useful. But for the most part he's now flying just as blind as everyone else.

Yamato first, since I know she's going to be the one everyone goes 'WHAAAAAAATTTTTT???!!!!' over. Yeah. So...I actually had this idea quite some time ago, after a bit of back and forth with a few people over how Yamato could get involved early. They really just pointed me at the meeting between Ace and Yamato, of course, and to the fact that this Ace might know enough Haki to deal with the handcuff bombs. Everything else was me sort of tying a bunch of loose ends together to make them all work out neatly. Hitting two sub points here... A) Yamato has been away from Wano for a couple of years at this point and has stabilized somewhat as a result. I've said this before, but I'll say it again here before accusations start flying. Yamato's thing with wanting to BE Kouzuki Oden? That's not...really a Trans thing to my mind. I know the Trans community likes to latch onto it but...honestly? It's actually got next to nothing to do with gender. Yamato may use male pronouns in canon, but she doesn't really bother correcting anyone over her gender. What she really has going on is an actively unhealthy dissociative identity disorder. Wanting to be someone else in the same way a desperate teenage girl wants to become a pop idol in order to be more popular...only quite a bit more extreme. It's a reasonable issue to develop based on her abusive background. But it's unhealthy as fuck, and I've ruled in this story that both a couple of years less hell and those same years of time to find herself while traveling have altered her perspective to something healthier. She still GREATLY admires Kouzuki Oden, and we'll see that as the story goes on. But she's no longer obsessed with Becoming him. B) On a less heavy point, the Gomu Gomu no Mi! We...still don't really know how important that bloody thing is! Which means leaving it out in the wild where I couldn't get at it if needed was...less than ideal. This means I always intended for a cast member to eat it, and Yamato very quickly rose to the top of the possibility list. I spent quite a bit of time going over all the bits of interaction I could find for her...and frankly she's the character who is most like canon Luffy basically anywhere in the story. She has all the hallmarks of his straightforward, irrepressible nature and I'd be utterly unsurprised to discover she was a D. Frankly, her personality, disregarding the Kouzuki Oden obsession, is VERY similar to Luffy's. A tiny bit more down to earth, but honestly eerily similar otherwise. She even somewhat physically matches Luffy's traits, having very sticklike arms and legs despite absurd strength. A few tweaks to account for her 'other proportions' and it all fits together pretty smoothly. Rewatching the relevant bits of Wano, it also seems to me like her own Devil Fruit was a quite recent thing in canon. It too, was also a Mythical Zoan, so it's a move sideways rather than an actual power up. All while providing the potential to awaken her as JoyGIRL if Oda makes that bit so central to the ending/plot that I can't get around it. C) Also, you all know you want to see Gomu Gomu no Boobie Barrage at some point. This is self-evident. A/N 3: Doflamingo is dead! Oh noes! This...actually doesn't change the plot all that much? Oh, it will, but it technically only shifts it a bit sideways. Frankly put, despite being a major antagonist for two arcs, he's sort of...unimportant in the grand scheme of things. His main thing was the production of SMILEs, but that is actually Ceaser Clown, not him. He was basically just Ceaser's protection/sponsor. All this really means is that Clown boy needs a new sugar daddy to protect/shield him. Which...well...dime a dozen in the New World to pick from, since he has something valuable to trade.

A/N 2: With Cobra we see a few things, such as why Alabasta is somewhat confident it can get away with shutting the WG out. I will restate here, for clarity and so I can point the many many people that will likely whine over it to this A/N, that NO, Alabasta couldn't stand up to a truly serious attempt to bring them to heel. Not yet, at least. What they can, and have, done is make it so costly that the calculous of war says it's firmly not worth the price. Were the WG not currently distracted by something else, they might still try to make an example of the country. But between political backlash and the fact they are a bit tied up on the military front, they currently don't have the means or will to hammer Alabasta. Eventually, they might, but Alabasta will do everything it can to keep stacking the odds while they have a window of opportunity. A/N 3: So far as I know, we don't know much about Marco's personal 'tastes.' But he seems to be just about the most commonly Yaoified character other than Ace. Often WITH Ace. As such, I amused myself by making a more mild reference here that his tastes are simply 'wide,' and don't disclude Okamas. An equal opportunity sort of guy, rather than leaning any particular way. A/N 4: We also start to see here how things are shaping up differently than canon in regards to the Ace/Whitebeard/Marines/etc situation...

Particularly as you lot voted for Vivi to eventually be part of the pairing :-p. A road to getting rid of any possible tensions between her and Robin has been properly forged, even as her crush is more firmly hinted at/shown. A/N 2: MWHAHAHA, bet no one saw that crash landing coming! I thought to myself that is sort of makes things sticth together pretty well if the presence of a Sky Island is part of why the Florian Triangle is weird. And, in One Piece, when something like this happens, the odds always lean on it happening in the most absurd fashion possible ;-).
