January Poll Results!
Added 2024-12-27 20:07:45 +0000 UTCWhew. Hope everyone had a good Christmas!
Before getting into the poll results, just a quick word about Displaced Hero. Don't worry, it's well underway ;-). I've already got about 9k words of it written, and I've got a couple of hours slotted to work on it more today. I should finish up writing it either today or tomorrow. Then I'll need a day to edit it. It should be up either tomorrow or Sunday. Also note that the first My Hero Automata of Jan might be a couple of days into the month, simply because I won't have a lot of time left this month to get ahead of that. It shouldn't be more than the 2nd or 3rd, though, unless something goes badly wrong.
Now, with that quick bit out of the way, on to the poll results!
----------------------
One Piece : Halfway Broken - 153
Harry Potter: Pandora's Box - 72.5 + (70% Boost) = 123.25
A Very Confused Pokemon Adventure - 69.5
Mass Effect: Eridium Dreams - 26 + (110% Boost) = 54.6
----------------------
Well, alright then! Poor Eridium Dreams got shafted pretty hard despite its massive boost :-p. If Pandora's Box had possessed the same level of boost, it would have squeaked close enough to a win to demand a recount. As it is, sadly for the Harry Potter fans out there, it's smaller boost meant it fell firmly short of a win. That, of course, puts One Piece: Halfway Broken back on top for the month of January.
Given how well Pandora's Box performed, I might try to sneak a small update of it in, just to keep its momentum going. But no promises, since I don't know just yet what January will be like. I'm also honestly pretty pleased with how well A Very Confused Pokémon Adventure has been performing, even in months without boosts. I think it has pretty good odds of earning itself updates whenever it does have boosts going for it, despite how new the story is. It just didn't have that advantage this month, since it managed to unseat Halfway Broken in December as the main poll winner and lost its boost in the process ;-).
Likewise, since Pandora's Box will have a 90% boost next month, I think it has a solid chance of knocking Halfway Broken out in February, even if it couldn't quite overcome Halfway Broken's popularity this time. Overall, I'm reasonably pleased with how the boosting is working out as a solution for giving other stories a shot. December proved it was possible for Halfway Broken to be overcome, even if it ended up getting a Holiday bonus update anyway :-p. And this month's Pandora's Box voting proved that other stories have a real chance of doing the same thing.
For January, though, One Piece: Halfway Broken is back on top of the heap! Look forward to the crew's return to the Blue Sea and their meeting with a certain Singing Skeleton!

Oh, somehow missed the bit where you asked about the other Patreon. It's here: https://www.patreon.com/c/user?u=568893 Technically, it's been around a lot longer. Mass Effect: Final Error actually started out as an extra reward for it at one point, years ago.

2024-12-28 22:11:53 +0000 UTCIt was a fair question :-), hence the detailed answer. I haven't talked very often about that process since it's literally only happened once so far and isn't likely to come up until either a story finishes, or I shift priorities to give me more writing time.

2024-12-28 16:11:19 +0000 UTCChances are zero. A story only gets added as a monthly story after prolonged popularity, when a previous story finishes. Displaced Hero was by FAR the most popular work I was writing (dominating every poll in much the way Halfway Broken does now) when Mass Effect: Final Error finished. As for My Hero Automata, it's both still extremely popular AND the closest story to finishing. Not that it's actually all that close. They are just about done with their first year at UA, but the story is intended to extent through year 3. Year 1 was by far the longest, as there was a large chunk of canon to chew through. Years 2 and 3 combined probably won't take up as much word count as Year 1 did. Even so, I fully expect it to be another 150-200,000 words. Displaced Hero is even farther away, though. There are better chances that I'd expand to a permeant third monthly story, honestly. My other Patreon, which makes adult visual novels, will be finishing up a major project by mid 2025. If I've gotten enough patronage here by then, I'm considering shutting that one down and doubling (or more) the writing time I have for the stories here. I'm honestly sort of burnt out on the visual novels and that Patreon has been slowly losing people since AI became the new kid on the block and people started spamming visual novels with it.

2024-12-28 16:10:40 +0000 UTCIs there any chance of a voting-story getting popular enough to knock one of the monthly-stories out and take its place? I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’m more invested in halfway and confused than displaced.
