I called this movies charming 🤣 and I couldn’t find the words that day to discribe how I felt but I got there in the end! I enjoyed this movie for sure but its def not a fave. I do however appreciate a lot it has to offer! Glad to have seen this because I had never heard of this movie before!

The best scene in this film by far is the train station scene. It is brilliant. A cinematic ballet. Whatever else you think of the rest of this film, that train station scene is a master class for directing and editing. Having said that, there are many historical inaccuracies in this film, but that’s not a huge deal. And I also feel like DeNiro’s Capone was a caricature and, dare I say it, cartoonish? Al Capone was evil and a bad MFer, but I don’t like when villains are portrayed as black-and-white. Just as I dislike when heroes are portrayed the same way. I’m not saying Capone should have been played sympathetically, but he comes across like a bad DeNiro impression. Anytime I see bad guys laughing hysterically for no reason or screaming loudly for no reason I can’t help but cringe and roll my eyes. The scariest villains are the ones who are calm and speak slowly like Hannibal Lecter. Lecter was evil, but he didn’t resort to histrionics. I do think the performances in this movie were very good especially Andy Garcia’s. To me, he’s the star of the movie. And is it just me or does George Clooney look more like Sean Connery as he gets older? It was a bit amusing to listen to Connery’s accent back then. As a Russian captain, “Let’s shet shail!” LOL BTW, there’s a movie Connery did with Catherine Zeta-Jones called “Entrapment” which came out in the summer of 1999. Back then, my friend Paul and I were going to see the new “Star Wars” movie “The Phantom Menace”. However, I was torn between seeing it or “Entrapment”. I had a huge crush on Catherine Zeta-Jones at the time and I still think she’s gorgeous, so it was a close vote, but we wound up seeing “The Phantom Menace”. I did end up seeing “Entrapment” a few months later on video and all I can say is this: Michael Douglas, you lucky bastard.

Specifically look into the role women's suffrage played in the temperance movement. Also the impact prohibition had on the US Income Tax. Watch your step, though. Rabbit holes abound.
