I cannot wait to watch it!!!

Just finished watching this chat, Ames. Really fun! I have to agree with everyone recommending Amadeus. I saw it in a packed theater the weekend it came out, and it was one of my favorite movie experiences. Good stuff!

A two hour cut of Barry Lyndon, haha?? Sorry, I can't go there 😂😂 It's a polarizing film, I get why it's not more popular (even a lot of Kubrick fans skip it or only watch it once as a "homework film"). But its slow pace is Kubrick's way of recreating the 18th century (along with his emphasis on authentic costumes, locations, and natural lighting), and I can't imagine it with quicker pacing. I'm not really a "long movie guy", but some lengthy films are so hypnotic that the time just flies by, and BL is one of those for me (I'm just transfixed by the beautiful compositions). You might enjoy it more if you're able to watch it without having to comment at the same time. The only flaw of the film for me is that the colors, esp. in the exteriors, are a bit too washed out for my taste. (Disclaimer: I know nothing about camera tech.) Apparently the DP decided not to use an 85 color conversion filter (which adds warmth to the exposure) to maintain continuity with the scenes shot in low-light conditions, so the color red in particular doesn't quite pop as it should. I just do my own color correction by adjusting the TV controls until it highlights the red army uniforms a bit more, and then it's all good. Anyway, it doesn't appeal to everyone, and that's fine. But Scorsese loves it, so I'll take that endorsement! 🤣🤣

Wish I could have joined from the start, this was a fun one! AFI 100 films I'm looking forward to: - Vertigo, 2001 - Lawrence of Arabia, Bridge on the River Kwai - Sunset Boulevard, The Apartment - Singin' in the Rain, Network - Chaplin: The Gold Rush, City Lights, Modern Times (best version of The Gold Rush is the 1925 [not 1942!!] version on criterionchannel.com ) I really like Buster Keaton's The General, but Sherlock Jr is his best film (it's only 45 min, and the AFI list has a minimum runtime of 60 min). I think Keaton's shorts are better than his features (for Chaplin it's the opposite).
