The Hunt for Red October Watch Along

Movie World Cup Winner!!!! Well I did like this film, but I am going to blame my lack of knowledge of words on how depleted I was after watching epi 7 of BoB! LOL No excuses for being dumb LOL! I did find it hard to adjust to the casting, keeping in mind the year this was made and Hollywood not great at casting diversity back then. But, I got past it.

Congrats to the actors for winning their battle with the SAG strike!!

Thanks so much for watching!!!

The Hunt for Red October Watch Along

Comments

Wow, even though it's obvious in retrospect, I never thought of Navratilova as a defector. From her bio it sees like it was pretty straightforward, I'm frankly surprised more athletes and overseas Communists didn't defect. Interesting info, thanks

You're right, JM. The 70's and 80's saw some high profile defections, including Mikhail Baryshnikov (ballet dancer, Latvia, 1974), Martina Navratilova (tennis player, Czechoslovakia, 1975), and Nadia Comăneci (gymnast, Romania, 1989). Definitely check out "The Sum of All Fears" when you get a chance! I think I'm going to watch it again right now! 😃

Understanding "to defect" seems to be a generational thing. For anyone who grew up in the 80s or earlier, defection was always in the news (at the Olympics there were always a few Russian or Eastern European athletes trying to defect) After the fall of the USSR political defection became much less prominent (although you still occasionally hear of ppl defecting from places like Cuba or N Korea) Haven't seen Sum of All Fears, I'll try it sometime (I wasn't impressed with the one abt the drugs, so I gave up the series)

It's always a pleasure to watch along with you Ames 😊, and "The Hunt for Red October" was no different. It's a complicated plot and you got most of it. While I understand the meaning of "defect" as a verb was eluding you, if that's the biggest blunder of your life, good on you girl! I hope you react to more Jack Ryan movies. I have enjoyed them all, but my favorite (by far) is "The Sum of All Fears", with Jack Ryan played by Ben Affleck. (I admit my preference is in the minority, but it is what it is. I'm sure you would enjoy it!)
