Gohan Beast's Exposition in [What-If #21], Updates and Q&A!

Yo guys! I'm putting in some additional screenshots regarding 'Beast' in the upcoming animation, just for you members, as a continuation of this community post if you haven't seen it yet!

The upcoming animation is going to include much more head-canons than previous ones, since Super Hero left a lot unexplained. I'd love your thoughts on the possible connection hinted at in these screenshots regarding the lore. Since Super Hero didn’t provide any exposition for 'Beast,' I wanted to explore an idea that further links 'Orange Piccolo' and 'Beast', as they had debuted at the same time! Also, did you notice this connection was subtly foreshadowed back in What-Else #12?

If you have any questions or suggestions about the animation or anything else, feel free to comment and I'll be sure to answer! Again: Thank you for your amazing patience and support!!

Gohan Beast's Exposition in [What-If #21], Updates and Q&A!

Comments

In the Metal Cooler Saga if Moro was freed earlier, what would he have done against Baby and the Big Gete Star? Could he hijack it with his magic or would he be absorbed into it? Also if Baby Metal Cooler appeared in the Super or GT timelines would anyone other than Beerus be capable of handling him? Continuing on this train of thought, is it possible for Baby Vegeta to hijack the Big Gete Star from his counterpart?

Something I found funny in What-if 12's intro is the fact that the bosses that Gogeta can fight are mostly from different timelines. With Gokhan and SSJ4 Gogeta being from a different timeline, BVB being a fusion of two people from separate timelines and Broly being his DBS version in the Gogeta timeline. The only bosses he can plausibly fight without time travel are Jiren and Golden Cell. Also if Gogeta had to fight one of the Bosses in the intro other than Jiren, which one would you want to write the most? Let's exclude Cell since he already fought Gogeta.

Hi! 1. He reached a 'variation' of Strongest Form 1 in Gohan's body, not 2, though instead of being fueled by Saiyan Power alone, it is infused with 'Beast'. This was enough to overpower Vegeta, only in Vegeta's body did he eventually ascend to Strongest Form 2, since he had chosen him as his main host for good. And indeed, he stayed as far as possible from Vegeta most of the time to not be hit with Forced Spirit Fission again and to stay away from 'Destruction'. 2. He took over Vegeta, who was already in Ultra Ego. When he had transferred from Gohan to Vegeta, he had taken Gohan's 'Strongest Form 1' state to Vegeta, and then ascended to 2 using the Energy of his followers. 3. The above question answers that as well! :D 4. I don't know if he can revert to Strongest Form 1 in the body he possesses, because I see it more as a link of his parasitism taking over and choosing his host. He absolutely can, though, take on all the Super Saiyan forms Vegeta can access, including God/Blue. 5. He can deactivate it at will! 6. Beerus is a moving goalpost whose power is not truly known yet. I think he'll likely be on par with him. 7. In the Updated Official Power Scaling: His child form, with some energy absorbed, would be ranked, I believe, between #107 and #108. In Strongest Form 1 / Beast, he'd be between #26 and #25. In his Strongest Form 2 / Ultra Ego, I believe he'd be between rank #14 and #15! Thank you for your time writing these!

Ohhh, that’s a really great question!! As you pointed out, I also think the most interesting exchange would be between the Baby-infested Meta-Cooler from What-Else #10 and Baby Vegito Black from What-If #19. In my opinion, they share many parallels, and because of that, they would absolutely despise each other. Goku Black has a deep hatred for human-made creations. As mentioned in the intro of What-If #19 (at 1:53), he initially turned Super Saiyan out of sheer disgust toward humans who dared to tamper with life itself by creating Androids No. 17 and No. 18. Because of this, he would naturally see BOTH Baby and Meta-Cooler as the ultimate examples of human-made abominations. Baby Vegito Black, as a whole, prefers to no longer view himself as a Machine Mutant at all. Instead, he sees himself as a being that has transcended such origins, an existence that has ascended into godhood and rightfully entered the domain of the Gods, if that makes sense. Also, I’d really like to make a continuation of What-Else #3, where Super Saiyan Turles challenges Frieza, the dialogue there would be really fun to make!

Thank you very much for your detailed reply—I really appreciate it. I also wanted to share a few additional ideas that I thought you might find interesting or inspiring. As we know, Zamasu originates from Universe 10, which is completely separate from Universe 6. This made me wonder: what if there were a What Else scenario where Zamasu encountered the Pride Troopers, or even Jiren, before ever meeting Goku and the Z Fighters? I feel this could add a fascinating new layer to the story, allowing deeper exploration of that side of the universe and potentially creating a very compelling What Else focused on Jiren. Personally, I really enjoy this group of characters—especially Jiren and Toppo. They feel like a “stable” that still has a lot of untapped narrative potential, particularly since they stand at the very top tier of Dragon Ball Super. Maybe we can have “What else: Pride Troopers vs The Ginyu Forces” . This can continue the Raditz Saga, after Frieza manages to kill the z warriors (instead of the Saiyan invasion, we will have the Frieza’s Force Invasion on Earth) and then the tournament of power comes he sends the ginyu force to take place on it going up against the pride troopers, that would be very exciting 🤣. I also think characters like Hit could be explored much further as well. I’ve noticed that he hasn’t really been featured yet, and I hope that in the future we might see more What If or What Else scenarios centered around characters like him. Additionally, I noticed that in both the anime adaptation and the full-color manga of Sand Land, the character Beelzebub is effectively canonized as Dabura’s son. This gave me some hope that he could potentially be headcanoned into your What Else universe as well—I think that would be incredibly interesting. On a related note, I also had an idea for a What Else where Dabura acquires the Third Eye while still in the Demon Realm, before ever becoming Babidi’s subordinate. If something like that were to happen, it would drastically alter the entire plot of the Buu Saga in a really intriguing way. Alternatively, this could tie into What-If #19, where Demon King Piccolo hinted at a “plan” involving a return to the Demon Realm—perhaps in search of the Third Eye himself. At the time, Dragon Ball Daima wasn’t yet available as a resource, but now, with the new canon and lore introduced in the Daima anime, the groundwork feels incredibly well-suited for future What-Ifs or What-Elses centered on the return of Piccolo Daimao. These are just a few ideas I wanted to share in the hope that they might spark further inspiration for your What If and What Else universe. Thank you so much for breathing new life into the world of Dragon Ball with your creative interpretations and dark, imaginative storytelling. I’m really looking forward to What-If #21. Peace!

Hi! That's an interesting question! I think he'd perhaps turn to Fortuneteller Baba and ask whether he was really the Goku of this world or not, and ask her to affirm if the Goku of his world is still in other world. Even though he knows deep down that's not his father, I assume he'll try to figure out what was going on. About the Time Ring, he *did* hear Black talk about Time Travel, so perhaps he'd put his body in a Capsule Corp coffin and likewise, turn to Baba -> Yemma -> King Kai to figure out what exactly is he.

That's a very interesting analysis and was a very enjoyable read. I especially like the instance of how Makakonsappo amplifies one's power to a very high degree, more so than likely any other attack like the Kamehameha, since it requires more charging time, it really brings a plausible theory on how Piccolo *did* have an effect on the form after all! Thank you for writing this and thank you for the kind words! Happy New Year! :D

Happy New Year, Hyourin! I genuinely wish you a wonderful year ahead—one filled with creative inspiration, exciting Dragon Ball projects, and continued success in both your career and your studies. Your passion and dedication really show in your work, and I hope this year treats you kindly in return. Coming back to my question—after asking you quite a few things and while waiting for What-If #21, I revisited Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero in both manga and movie form, and I noticed several details that I wanted to share with you. The reason Gohan didn’t awaken the Beast form when Goku was “donuted” by Moro wasn’t because of any parental joke about Piccolo being the real dad (just kidding), but because the circumstances in the Moro arc were fundamentally different from those in the Super Hero arc. During the Moro fight, Gohan was already completely exhausted. In contrast, during the Cell Max incident, he was still at full strength after having just eaten a Senzu Bean. This difference in his combat condition is the first key factor. The second major difference is that in the Super Hero arc, Piccolo explicitly instructed Gohan to go all out and fire a Kamehameha—though in practice, what Gohan unleashed was Makankosappo. In that moment, Gohan’s power output was amplified to an extreme degree. To put this into perspective: during the battle with Raditz, Goku’s power level was 416, yet it jumped to 924 when he used the Kamehameha. Similarly, Piccolo’s power level was 408, but when he used Makankosappo, it surged to 1330. This indicates that in the Super Hero arc, Gohan was already operating at maximum energy output—and on top of that, he was channeling Makankosappo, a technique that concentrates even more energy than the Kamehameha. Because of this, when Gohan believed that Cell Max had killed his mentor, the enormous amount of power he was already charging at maximum output resonated with a massive rage boost. His strength multiplied again, pushing him close to losing control entirely. Faced with such overwhelming energy, the only way to sustain it was through a new transformation—and that transformation was Beast. In chapter 103 of the Dragon Ball Super manga, Gohan explains the nature of Beast to Goku in simple terms: “I raise my ki to the point where I enter a state of rage, while still being able to maintain that power continuously.” In other words, he pushes his strength to what should be an uncontrollable level, yet still keeps it stabilized. Seen this way, Beast can be understood as the fusion of two power sources that are normally temporary: maximum energy output and rage amplification. By combining them and sustaining that state, Gohan achieves something entirely new. Personally, I’ve never criticized Beast for its core concept—in fact, I think the underlying idea is quite strong. What disappointed many fans was the rushed and shallow execution, which is admittedly hard to defend. I sincerely hope that the analysis I’ve shared here can help shed more light on how this form works, and perhaps even help What-If #21 align more closely with established Dragon Ball facts and internal logic. I’m really looking forward to what you have in store next. Peace

Regarding What-else 21, I have many questions 1. In Baby's fight with Ultra Ego Vegeta, did Baby access Strongest form 2 in Gohan's body as the fight continued, also was the fight a battle of attrition with Baby using ranged attacks to avoid Vegeta's strikes? 2. Also once Baby possessed Vegeta, did he immediately combine Vegeta's Ultra Ego with Strongest Form 2 to achieve the appearance shown in What-else 21 or does he have to gather even more energy from his followers to access Strongest Form 2? 3. When he first possessed Vegeta was his appearance like that of Strongest Form 1 since he had used Strongest Form 1 + Beast in Gohan's body? 4. On this train of thought, can Baby revert into weaker forms like Super Saiyan God or Blue Evolution as well as Strongest Form 1? 5. Does Baby have any stamina issues maintaining Ultra Ego or is it permanently active like Strongest Form 2 and can he deactivate it to save stamina as well as switch to other forms? 6. If this incarnation of Baby were to fuse with Goku Black from the Goku Black Saga, could the resulting Baby Vegito Black win against Beerus from What-if 19 or would the result ultimately be the same? 7. If you had to put him in your Power Scaling list in his child, Beast and Ultra Ego forms where would you rank him? Is his power superior to those in the higher rankings like Beerus and the fusions?

357hero

If the characters from different What-ifs or What-elses were to interact with each other what do you think would be the most interesting dynamic to write? I can see Goku Black having a lot of interesting dialogue with others and Gokhan as well having a lot of potential for interactions with Majin Piccolo or any Gogeta/Vegito incarnation. As well as Baby Vegeta and Baby Metal Cooler having an incredibly complicated relationship. Would they despise each other or would they team up?

357hero

In what-if 7, if Future Gohan managed to kill Black by destroying the senzu or landing a lethal blow before he ate it, what would he have done with Black's corpse and the time ring? Would he destroy the ring or use it to travel to Trunks timeline to inform him about Zamasu's death?

357hero

Hi! I haven't considered that specifically, but I really do want to make a What-If where Future Trunks is the main character! I can probably perhaps orchestrate a story that can relate to Beerus. Thank you for your time writing this!

Hyourinjutsu

Hi! They are able to pull of x20! I'd rank them as of the last Power Scaling Video between #45 (Gogeta, Saiyan beyond God) and #44 (Vegito: Xeno, Wrathful)! If they'd use it, given their Base Power is the same as the Buu Saga, I believe they'd cap at Full-Power Jiren in terms of enemies in the franchise.

Hyourinjutsu

Thank you! No bother at all! I didn't even get notified it got blocked. Should work now! :D Please update if you can!

Hyourinjutsu

Is the highest Kaio-ken multiplier that What-if 11 Gokhan and What-if 9 Goku Black can use ×10, or are they capable of pulling off Kaio-ken ×20? If they used it against their respective foes, would it have changed anything about their battles and where would you rank them in the powerscaling list?

357hero

Hi, sorry to bother you when you're busy working on What-if 21 but I can't watch What-if 7 because of Sony blocking it due to copyright. Do you have any plans to fix it?

357hero

Sorry I'm late for the Q&A but I wanted to ask you something, have you considered making a what-else or what-if set in the future timeline, where Beerus wakes up early and it sets off a chain reaction of multiple divergences with either Future Gohan or Trunks dealing with Beerus and other villains from Super?
