Comparison of Vactrol curves

We compared LCR0203, which is inexpensive and widely distributed, and NSL-7053, which is used in some modules.
The voltage attenuation characteristics are clearly different.
NSL-7053 has near-instrument-like damping characteristics.
On the other hand, LCR0203 has good responsiveness and has excellent performance as an electronic component.

NSL-7053 is discontinued, might be hard to find eventually. Have you looked at VTL5C4? I'm still using an LDR+LED in shrink tube as DIY vactrol. I've played with adding caps and trim pots to alter the behavior but it is very subtle, and mostly alters the attack without doing much to the decay.
