Serpentine Launching on Wednesday!

Hello, hello!

Woof. So. Been a minute. Rather than trying to fill in all the events of the past month before I let myself get to the good stuff, I'm going to skip to the end:

Serpentine, my next collaboration with poet Tara K. Shepersky and publisher Bored Wolves, is launching on Kickstarter this Wednesday! You can check out the preview page and sign up to get an email notification as soon as we launch right here.

I'm happy to report that after my last post, my watercolor process started to feel much more lively and exploratory. Honestly, most of that came down to being in Portland for a solid stretch of time, getting to catch a break from the high-pressure space of caregiving, and spending in-person time with creative friends. Always a good reminder that displeasure with my practice is almost always my body and heart telling me that they aren't getting what they need.

Here are some of the pieces I've been working on:

(Three postcard designs and a special bookmark ☝️)

I've got a few more paintings to do before I'm completely done, but it feels great to have produced some pieces I'm really proud of and learned a lot more about color and technique just in these few paintings. (That middle one even got featured on Tumblr Radar! I've been posting more there lately because it feels low stakes and goofy and Not Like Twitter or Instagram.)

A couple other things:

That's it for now. I'm so excited to share Serpentine with all of you later this week, but in the meantime I'm off to walk a dog (I'm housesitting) and look for hawks.

You never know where they'll turn up! Stefan seems to have found a really good person in Poland, which I love because they can be in the print shop checking colors live as they come off the machine. And as far as prints go: I'm planning to release larger prints of some of these pieces in my own store once the book is out, maybe also a run of postcards? But we'll get the book funded first and then take it from there.

Beautiful work. Definitely hope you make those postcards available for separate purchase - some for the wall and some to send to friends! :) As for printed quality it’s all about the paper and ink / printer’s process. I recall my dad trying dozens of options before finding a printer that could print his stuff well enough that he liked it (and they were in Fiji or something wild like that).

"for the insurance" 😀 What a great essay.
