Hello !

To finish the episode like that… Yes, I was frustrated and maybe I insulted people. Because right there, we have our two guys, Deku and Todoroki, badly hurt fighting a big villain, while Iida is on the floor. The situation is already really bad. So, in addition to that, to have Todoroki saying all of that to Iida… I cried. Because he truly cared about Iida, he wondered about what could happen to him, he knows he has family issues, but also that he has to find himself.

And we also had that flashback about what happened during his reunion with his mom. We had Deku who managed to use his full power, and also to fight so well against Stain, because he used Bakugo's moves ! That was also great, the fact that he was inspired by him, he learnt from him. I loved so many things during this episode, but I was so afraid for Iida, still on the floor, badly hurt, and that the villain wants to kill when he doesn't want to attack Deku and others.

I'm still french, so I'm still sorry if my english hurts you.

I cannot speak to Horikoshi's writing because I haven't read the manga and don't know how faithful the anime is to it, but just watching the anime, I did not get the sense that people were more understanding of how Endeavor behaved. If anything, from the very beginning, we are forced to see Endeavor from the perspective of Todoroki, who does see him as a monster. Just seeing how much emotion this stoic character brings up whenever thinking or interacting with his dad communicates to us that Endeavor is not a good guy, that he is in fact an asshole. A point that is only driven further in the flashbacks. So I don't see who in the anime thus far thinks that he is a sad troubled man instead of the scumbag that he really is. Even Deku didn't like him. With regards to his mom forgiving him, you need to understand that the reason why that was important to Todoroki was because ever since the incident, he's never visited or spoken to her. Todoroki felt guilt over abandoning his mother and leaving her to think that he didn't care for her anymore. He felt guilt over not being able to protect her from Endeavor. He doesn't blame his mom for burning his face; he blamed Endeavor as the one who drove her to it. She forgave him because he was seeking her forgiveness. And he was seeking forgiveness because from his perspective he was 1) unable to protect her, and 2) abandoned her. I'm sure she didn't see it that way, which was why she forgave him instantly. And if you go back to that scene, it actually does say that she apologized to him as well before it says that she forgave him. So, again, I haven't read the manga. Maybe things are different there? If so, maybe some context on the differences would be nice to know.

I loved the parallels in this episode between Todoroki and Iida, and especially Todoroki's self awareness. The one thing that always bothers me in this episode is probably a translation issue, but I'm not sure. Todoroki says "she forgave me instantly" and all I can say is, his mom poured scalding water on him long enough that it left him permanently scarred, so... I'm not sure he's the one that owed an apology.... There is a lot of evidence in the way Horikoshi writes that she is influenced by a culture that undervalues women and accepts a certain level of abuse from men as normal, and that where I would see Endeavor as a monster, they see him as a "troubled" person who "did a bad thing".
