I was really shocked, sad and mad when I discovered Todoroki's background. I guessed that this universe had bad sides, I talked for a long time about the fact I don't like kids to be categorized so soon and the consequences it can have, and I'm still wondering about how villains become villains. So it was not a surprise that it was still bad news to learn here about the forced marriages between people, to have kids with the best mix of quirks. And that it happened to Todoroki's mom, to Todoroki himself.
I want him to succeed, to prove to everyone he's not "the son of" and he's a great hero on his own, and to win here without using his dad's quirk. But I also want Deku to win ! Don't ask me to pick a side. I was a little mad at Deku at the end of this episode, for falling into Shinso's trap so quickly, when he was warned by Ojiro. Oh, and big hug to Ojiro, that honorable decision of letting his place like that, I truly appreciated it.

Now that I think about it, Todoroki's background responds to one of my theory of the season 1 "not all heroes are gonna be good, like The Boys styles, some can use their powers for bad stuff". But yes, Endeavor is worst than what I imagine, for this universe, it's so rough all of what you can imagine behind how he treated the mom, his kids... Glad to see you here in the comments 😊

I feel like a lot of things about Todoroki's story are left too vague, the situation he describes is horrible. It isn't clear at all to what degree his mother is "forced" into the marriage, whether she is simply socially pressured into accepting Endeavor or if she was essentially sold to him. Neither is great but either is bad enough that when I watched this episode I saw the "Number Two Hero" as a villain. I think there is a lot of focus put on the theme of "what is a hero" in MHA, especially during the early seasons, and I think that is one of the things the series does way better than other series. Looking forward to the rest of the tournament arc! :D
