Beginning of the season 3 : Morty kills Rick willingly but Rick prepared something to survive. Beginning of the season 4 : Morty kills Rick unintentionally, he's really dead but he prepared something to come back, but Morty doesn't want to do it. For his own interest. It's not a question of life, surviving, it's a question of death, not really when, but how, with Jessica. Morty doesn't think about Rick and his future, nor to Beth and the entire family, how sad and mad they would be…

Writers, you want to destroy all of the little hope I have for this kid, right ? For me, for now, he's still a teenager and he can evolve in so many directions, so I want to think that he's not gonna go darker. At the end of season 3, he chose to protect his family and not to intervene himself with violence and all. But here… Also, it was an episode with Rick living an adventure on his own, Morty living something for himself, and at the end, both talk about it, the season is gonna be different, with maybe them doing stuff on their own.
