Hello !
This movie was truly impressive. And I'm saying it as someone who never watched the old movies and read the books. So I really watched the movie with an open mind, no expectations of good translation or readaptation. The "product" itself is impressive. Because the pictures and the musics are truly amazing, but also because everything is done to contribute to the enormous visual quality of it : the costumes, all of the movie sets, the environment, the mood of each place… Every detail counts.
The characters are well interpreted, and even it's taking a little time to get attached to them or at least to care for them, at the end we do. The more difficult for me was to follow all stories : all of the one about Paul, that destiny is supposed to have, the faith around it, his "dreams" and all, all of that was well written and they took also majority of the time on screen for it ; but all of the political aspect with the emperor, the houses etc, it was rough. Without creating new scenes, just a few more lines to confirm to the viewers that he understood things right, it would have been great. At least, for newbies like me. But again, it was clearly not the main story of the movie : it's made clear that it's the story of Paul AND his mother Jessica. And I love the promises around her character, her past, her future, around Paul, for herself, her baby… SO COOL.
