What to do with #SexDungeon23?
Added 2023-03-01 13:53:37 +0000 UTCI'm coming to the end of the 2nd level of the #SexDungeon23 project (last post tonight) and I do have some concerns to share.
Those concerns aren't with me, thankfully.
When I first heard about the #Dungeon23 thing at the end of last year, I thought it would be a pretty good brainstorming exercise for a future H-game project. And it has. Adding a small amount daily is a pretty good way to get started on a project that might initially seem big and daunting. It's also fairly low maintenance. I have a designated slot in the morning for replying to comments and emails, and other general maintenance. If the morning is quiet, I rattle off a few new rooms for later. Outside of the initial introductory posts, it's barely encroached on my other work at all. And, once the year is out, I'll likely have a pretty good skeleton I can maybe flesh out as a fun monster girl/succubus H-RPG game in the future.
I also thought it would be a pretty good way to generate some daily content for patrons inbetween the monthly HoHH releases and other posts.
My concern is it might be a little too good at that...
What I didn't realise is that I think patrons get email notifications for every post, and if I'm posting daily, that will start to get spammy, especially for people not interested in what is essentially very early brainstorming. I've noticed I've been losing a few patrons and one exit response did raise the issue of email spam.
So, I thought I'd bring it up, see what people's opinions are and try to work out what to do going forward. I want to continue working on this, as I think it's useful, not impacting much on anything else, and will probably give me something I can take further once HoHH is done. On the other hand, I don't want to be spamming patrons to the point they unsubscribe out of annoyance!
I might also be worrying about something that isn't a problem – i.e. most of you like the daily posts and the attrition is down to a worsening economy forcing people to tighten their belts (I fully understand and I'm sympathetic to this).
So a little poll. It won't be binding as I'm trying to gauge whether it is causing some annoyance. Even if "keep going as is" wins, if it's by a tight margin, I'm probably annoying more patrons than is helpful.
As to where to move the posts – there's my blog, a separate panel on the HoHH website, twitter even. Someone suggested Discord, which I still need to look into. I'm open to suggestions in the comments. (e.g. such as bundling them together as a single weekly update)
My own opinion is I think it's a useful exercise, posting publicly is a useful incentive to keep it moving, and I'd like to continue it... but in a way that is fun for patrons rather than annoying.

Might be a year or so. I want to get the Twine version of HoHH finished first (or at least a finished version with an ending - can always add new harlots/factions later because of the structure). I might use this an excuse to learn Godot and add graphics/sound. It's also more friendly to a chapter release schedule as used by games by Monster Girl Dreams. (HoHH has a very weird structure where I have to add absurd numbers of harlots before I can advance the plot).
