RWBY: The Legend of Nameless

CHAPTER 5

-

Colt ignored the looks that he was getting as he got ready. Breathing in, he cancels out the surrounding noise before gripping Archer's bow.

Ashibumi, the placing of the footing.

Dōzukuri, the forming of the body.

Yugamae, the preparation of the bow.

Uchiokoshi, the raising of the bow.

Hikiwake, the initial drawing of the bow.

Kai, the full drawing of the bow.

Hanare, the release of the arrow.

Zanshin, the remaining body or mind, the continuation of the shot.

Breathing out slowly, he lowers the bow and takes a second to compose and clear his mind before tracing another arrow, repeating the motions.

*TAK!*

*TAK!*

*TAK!*

*TAK!*

*TAK!*

*TAK!*

*TAK!*

*TAK!*

*TAK!*

He stops after firing 10 shots, placing the bow leaning on his counter as he pressed a button to see his dispersion of shots.

A few seconds later, a cloth target with the thickness of 3" came towards him, showing only one hole in the center of the bullseye.

Thankfully, he brought earplugs, or else he would have gotten a headache from all the gunshots that were sounding in this shooting range.

But still, it seems that Archer's hobbies are slowly becoming his. Never in his life would he say that performing Kyudo was a peaceful act for his body and mind, but here he was, coming to this shooting range every week to wind down after a week of missions.

Hell, he even started cooking for once, and it tasted decent. Colt Lee had no talent in cooking prior to this, he could only do simple cooking like boil an egg or cook rice.

He was starting to worry about his mentality. How much of his personality was Archer's already? And how much did he lose?

Closing his eyes, he takes his time to compose his mind, breathing a few shaky deep breaths, before taking the bow once more, intended to shoot a few more arrows and train his archery before his session of 1 hour finishes.

"So, this is the young man, Glynda?"

Ozpin, staring at the blue skies that covered his view asked as Glynda voiced out her analysis.

"Yes, Colt Lee. Age 19 when he first signed up for the Huntsmen License, currently 20. Background, unknown, but he had mentioned that his village got overran by the Grimm. Family, most possibly passed due to the invasion."

A second later, a screen showing Colt appeared in front of Ozpin.

"Colt Lee has the title of the youngest B ranker in the decade, raising from G rank to B rank in just under 10 months due to his consistency of taking a mission daily with no breaks, though he has since slowed down his pace with a day off per week after being inactive for a month.

For his age, the boy has shown exceptional skill with the blade, but his prowess shines when his archery comes into play. He'd once taken down a Nevermore that was a kilometer away with just one well-shot arrow through its skulls while it was flying at full speed.

His Aura control surpasses even A rank Huntsmen, and his Semblance, Blacksmith is simple yet effective.

It allows him to use Aura to copy and create bladed weapons that he had seen or came across, though he can only store up to two weapons at a time, and if he wants to copy a new weapon, he would need to open a "slot"."

Glynda finishes her analysis on Colt as Ozpin simply hums. The headmaster was in thought for a few seconds.

"... Thank you for the report, Glynda. What are your thoughts of my decision?"

"I think that he is too young, even with the amount of experience under his belt. I can, however see the point, which is why I'm partially leaning towards Colt Lee being hired as an Assistant Professor."

As sharp-witted as ever, thought Ozpin as he took a sip from his mug, tasting the deep cocoa before walking to his table and placing it down. Sitting on his seat, he made his decision.

"... I think Qrow is back from Mistral, so if you'd please contact him to track Mr. Colt down for a quick chat..."

Glynda simply nodded before tapping away on her Scroll.

"Done. Now, regarding the Vytal Festival details for the next year..."

"Shingi, (Spirit and Technique), Muketsu ni shite banjaku (Flawless and Firm)."

A pair of Kanshou and Bakuya are thrown, angled slightly above the neck as a feint.

Trace another pair, and rush the enemy while they deflect the thrown pair.

"Chikara (Our Strengths), Yama wo nuki (will Rip the Mountains)."

The thrown Bakuya comes back and attacks from behind, as the Kanshou on hand immediately strikes after finding the slim opening.

"Tsurugi (Our Swords), Mizu wo wakatsu (will Split the Waters)."

The thrown Kanshou comes back and attacks from behind, as the Bakuya on the other hand immediately strikes after finding the slim opening.

"Seimei (Our Names), Rikyuu ni todoki (will Reach the Imperial Villa)."

Trace the last pair of Kanshou and Bakuya, and attack the defenseless enemy by thrusting them into the chest.

"Warera (We), Tomo ni ten wo idakazu (Cannot Hold the Heavens Together)."

Supercharge the two blades and make them explode, letting the shards of the blades deal the final amount of damage.

"Kakuyoku Sanren (Triple Linked, Crane Wing)."

The culmination of Archer's usage of the swords and the true nature behind Kanshou and Bakuya, the Triple Linked, Crane Wings. His own Noble Phantasm technique created that guarantees sure-hit kill, used to get him through his numerous battles, relying on the married swords' attraction to one another, consecutive projections, and keeping the basic technique, symbolized by the chanted poem.

Colt modified the Noble Phantasm technique to suit his current battle experience and physical prowess, using Heaven's Feel Shirou Emiya's version instead.

Panting heavily, Colt ignored the stinging pain on his fingers and body before tracing another of Kanshou and Bakuya, getting into Archer's battle stance, which entails purposefully showing "openings" in his guard to bait his enemies into them, before countering their mistakes.

It is borderline suicide, but it works. With Mind's Eye (True), it was possible. This was the only way for Archer, a mediocre Servant at best in terms of parameters, to be able to go toe-to-toe with the other monstrous Servants in the 5th Holy Grail War.

And now Colt would need to implement this fighting style into his own, after witnessing the difference between this world's best and him.

B to A rank Huntsmen have an average status parameter of a C class Servant, meaning 30% of the Huntsmen Guild could overpower him with just strength and speed alone.

Worse comes to worst, he could always unveil the Shroud around Archer's arm for a more powerful Noble Phantasm — Countless Noble Phantasms flashed through his mind in a few milliseconds — But he would rather use Kanshou and Bakuya to their full potential, not only because Archer has the most experience with them, because...

They were created without vanity, and lack a sense of purpose found in other swords. They contain no fighting spirit to defeat others nor a competitive spirit to beat other weapons, and they contain neither the desire to be famous nor the faith to accomplish great deeds.

Wasn't that description vaguely similar to him currently?

He'd never wanted to transmigrate into this world in the first place, he was already enjoying his life before. He doesn't have the intention to even do anything about the plot. Beacon could crash and burn, and he wouldn't care one bit. He'd never cared about fame, he hated it after seeing what fame would do to a person. It corrupts.

The only goal he had in this world was to defeat the true evil in this world, Salem and her group of misfits, but what comes after that? What was his purpose after finishing the one goal that he was given?

*SHIRK!*

Looking down, he didn't even notice that his grip on the two swords were loose, causing them to escape from his hand and cleanly stabbed into the ground like butter.

He stared at the married swords, looking at the reflection of ash white hair, steel gray eyes, and the tanned patch of skin that streaked across the left side of his face, as if questioning his identity.

Was he Colt Lee, the 20-year-old student who was studying in Computer Science, who had family and friends, or was he the Heroic Spirit EMIYA who walked through hell and was abandoned by his ideals?

...

"            Haaa."

Bending down, he grabs onto Kanshou and Bakuya's hilts, tightening the grip on them as he raised the blades parallel to the ground, with Kanshou above Bakuya. He stared at them, his eyes without any luster.

Do not stray from the mission.

Archer's arm reminded him. The arm starts to burn.

The tears in his eyes, the weird feeling in his stomach, the rapid beating of his heart, everything disappears.

Colt Lee will turn his mind to steel, every time he faces this dilemma, as it acts as an obstacle for his mission. His mission of destroying all the Grimm pools and Salem from existence.

It is a fact. There was no need for such thoughts. Until the mission is done, he will continue moving forward, even if it means that he would become a machine of steel.

He will save Remnant, one way or another.
